Red Faction: Armageddon

Welcome to the walkthrough for Red Faction: Armageddon. This will not be a complete step-by-step walkthrough, but you will be able to get all 59 trophies (10 of them are DLC) by following my advice. This is a fairly easy game to complete. Only 2 playthroughs are required and the only collectible in the game is easy enough where you will probably get it without actually trying.

Let's get started and get you a nice looking Platinum trophy!

For starters, if you have played Red Faction: Guerrilla and are expecting this game to basically copy that game in every aspect, then you are wrong.

Guerrilla is a sandbox shooter that offers vehicles to drive and side missions. Armageddon is a linear shooter and you will not get the vehicle sections nor are there any side missions to fart around with. But this doesn't mean the game isn't good. Guerrilla was its own great game and Armageddon is a solid game as well. To be honest I actually enjoyed the story more in Armageddon, while I enjoyed how you were able to play the campaign in Guerrilla.

None of the trophies in Armageddon are overly difficult. In the single player campaign, your "most difficult" achievement would probably be the insane playthrough. But if you use the New Game+ option after you beat the campaign for the first time, you can use your already leveled up Darius Mason (you will have access to all unlocked weapons and your unlocked skills). So in reality the insane playthrough is a breeze.

Infestation is equivalent to a horde mode or zombies where you can actually play with friends. I found this mode to be incredibly boring playing by myself. Try to find at least 1 friend to play through this to make the time go faster.

There is no true multiplayer mode like there is in Guerrilla. Which I am thankful for because over the years, I am sick and tired of multiplayer!

Who's ready for story time?!

Welcome to the story walkthrough for Red Faction: Armageddon! I am starting this off by saying this will not be a full step-by-step walkthrough. But this is a linear game and I will make sure you get every trophy. And that's all that really matters right? Right. Let's go!

I recommend you play through the campaign on Easy for your first playthrough. That way you can focus on getting to learn the missions and work on your weapons and Nano Forge skills. You will still earn a butt-load of trophies. After that you can go through the campaign again on Insane by choosing the New Game+ option and you will be stronger and have all those weapons and skills unlocked.

Through your travels, you will notice these little turquoise audio logs on the ground. They aren't really hidden very well. You will stumble across quite a bit just by taking the straight paths on your missions. I will link a great YouTube guide to getting these logs:

Red Faction: Armageddon Audio Logs

Once you have your 40th audio log, you will earn this trophy:

The beginning of the first mission is a basic tutorial-ish style of gameplay. You learn to walk, aim and shoot. Nothing too stressful. If you ever need to know where to go, press the cn_select button and your GPS (which is named SAM) will show you where you need to go. There really isn't anything special you need to do in this level. So just make your way through it and you will receive your first "mission accomplished" trophy:

After some cut-scenes that develop the story you are going to be in an armored suit/walker type of thing. You don't get to do much with it but just follow the path and do what the game tells you to. You need to take that ball above the Ultor scientist projection and smash it into the door. It is a fairly quick mission and once you get to the target of your mission and "remove the seal", you earn your second "mission accomplished" trophy:

This next mission you will meet a bulk of your enemies in the depths of Mars. You have successfully unleashed certain doom on the folk living on Mars! Congrats! I would give you a sticker but instead how about we snag a couple of extra trophies on this mission instead? That's a pretty fair deal if you ask me!

Anyways, the bugs you encounter here are called Creepers. They aren't too much of a threat but in groups they might become a nuisance if anything. Instead of shooting or hammering these peckerheads, walk up to the bugs and come to a complete stop. Before the creepers jump away, press cn_RS (right stick) and you will perform a "finisher". In simpler terms, you're going to curb-stomp there faces. Do this to 25 of the little creeps (see what I did there!?) and you will net this trophy:

And since you are having such a blast whomping on these creepers, take out your magnet gun and fire on one creeper. Aim at another and fire at that one. Watch as they collide and you pop another trophy:

Keep progressing through the mission by following the twists and turns of the tunnels. Soon you'll make it to civilization and at the end of the mission you'll get this trophy:

This next mission has you running around in front of a convoy and killing bugs along the way so the convoy can move forward. On your walking expedition find a very open space and take out your trusty magnet gun and fire onto one of the bugs. Then turn around and fire at a wall that is quite a distance away. It may take a few tries, but hopefully you will snag:

You will soon find yourself fighting a Berserker. He is a beast of a creature who can kill you very quickly. He is devastating in close quarters and to top it off he has a pretty wicked long-range attack. Obviously you need to kill this critter. When you actually do kill him, he will explode and if you are too close, you will be joining him! So keep your distance. If you can, try and kill one of these while it is standing near a bunch of other critters. If takes out two other enemies you will pop this trophy:

Time to switch things up a little bit. Let's try and get a trophy using the Nano Forge. You will have the Impact skill by now and all you need to do is use it on a creeper and send him flying 30 meters. You need to be on slightly elevated terrain and launch the creeper "downhill" basically. It may take a few times to get it just right, but send him far enough and you will get this trophy:

While you are escorting the convoy, you will have access to a L.E.O. suit, if you so choose. I highly recommend that you take it and attempt to get one of the dumbest trophies in the game. This trophy requires you to smash into (and kill) 5 enemies in one swoop. The enemies are constantly jumping around and that makes this kind of frustrating. It takes much patience to line up enough creatures but after many tries you will get:

  • Ooooh Yeah!

Kill 5 enemies with one L.E.O. shoulder bash.

    Ooooh Yeah!
Online/Offline - These trophies can be obtained in either an online or offline mode.Single Player - These trophies can be obtained by a single player.Cooperative - These trophies can be obtained by two or more players in a cooperative game mode who have met the trophy requirements.

Time to finish this mission. Keep escorting the convoy and soon you will get to a cargo-lift kind of area. You need to clear out the enemies and fire up the generator under the lift. Hop on with the convoy and you will get this trophy:

Your newest mission has you running one hell of an errand. You need to prance around the depths of Mars and pick up 3 power cells so you can plug them into some broken machines to turn a force-field OFF. Yeah that's right. They must have bought these force-field generators from the mirror universe. But whatever right? During this mission you will confront a new kind of enemy. You will get your first glimpse of it via cut-scene. It is called a Wraith and it loves to pull a disappearing act (you'll get the reference, trust me). Take out your hammer and start swinging at the Wraith and you should be able to get (if perchance you don't get it on your first introduction to the Wraith, you will have MANY chances later on):

Also, this is about the time where you have been picking up quite a bit of salvage. You might get this achievement now or in a mission that is very close after this one. I am hoping that you snag this:

You will obtain a new Nano Forge ability which allows you to repair things my launching a little "repair grenade". Use this ability to repair the elevator generator. After taking the elevator you will need to get to the Purification Plant. You find that it is completely infested with bugs. After the cutscene you will have to destroy the plant. Whip out a Rocket Launcher or your trusty Charge Launcher and once it falls you will unlock this trophy:

This whole next mission you will be rolling around the depths of Mars in the " underground city" like areas. There will be another L.E.O. exoskeleton you will have access to. If you haven't got the Ooooh Yeah trophy that I listed a few missions ago, get that now. But there is another trophy with the L.E.O. that you should snag right now. It's a boring trophy, but it needs to be done. Find a pod that is spewing out enemies but do your best to NOT destroy the pod. Just keep killing enemies until you have killed 175 (yeah...that many) creatures. You will pop this trophy for doing so:

  • Crusader

Kill 175 enemies while in the L.E.O. exoskeleton.

    Crusader
Offline Mode - These trophies require play in game modes that do not require a connection to any live services, such as Play Station Network.Single Player - These trophies can be obtained by a single player.Cumulative + - These trophies are obtained by repeatedly performing the same action or set of actions over time.

At the end of this mission you will be fighting a Behemoth. This dude is BIG and angry. If you have the Plasma Beam, use that as that is your best bet into defeating the Behemoth quickly. Try your best to keep some kind of cover between you and him. His acid attack is brutal and if he is close to hit you with his fists, you will be spitting teeth. Once he falls, you will earn this trophy:

Now that you are back on the surface, take in some of the beautiful sights! The landscape is almost breathtaking. It's a shame that this game isn't more open world like Guerrilla. Alright enough dreaming...make sure you have your magnet gun in your arsenal for this mission. Your convoy gets attacked and Sgt. Winters tells you to go destroy some bug pods. On your adventure through the bugs and valleys a tentacle will come shooting out of the ground. Take your magnet gun and when the tentacle flings something at you, catch the debris and shoot it back at the tentacle. With success, you earn this trophy:

  • Catch!

Use the Magnet Gun to fling debris BACK at a Tentacle.

    Catch!

After you have destroyed all the pods and made your way back to the Red Faction you need to help defend them from a few waves of bugs. It's not a hard battle and it's not long either. After all enemies are defeated you will get this story-based trophy:

Now it's time for a night mission on the surface! You are tasked with running around and destroying 5 jamming towers. Very easy mission and the enemies are just some bland cultists. Around this mission, you should be able to buy out an upgrade ring. You may have even got this in an earlier mission but if you haven't now would be a prime opportunity:

After you destroy the last tower, Sgt. Winters will praise you and all you have to do is hold down the cn_S button and you will return to Winters with this trophy:

The next mission is a fairly easy one. You get to ride a mine-cart while getting chased by Hale who is in a machine that is a bit bigger than your mine cart. Eventually you will get to fight him. First you need to drop some big balls on his Walker. Yeah, balls. They are positioned above the rails that you are riding on. Be cautious though...don't let Hale get to close to you or he will squash you. Hale will eventually flip the cart and corner you in a circular room. You will need to shoot a few times at Hale and then run to the other side of the room. Finish Hale off and this trophy is yours:

You and Kara have decided to go talk to the Marauders. You get to pilot the Scout Walker. It's a pretty sweet ride and the trophy associated with the Walker requires you to kill 100 enemies with it. You should easily do that and this trophy is yours:

Once you make it to the Marauders (the mission is fairly quick) you will get a cut-scene and the "mission accomplished" trophy:

Now it's time to get some work done during this next mission. I am hoping you have been upgrading your Nano forge abilities. Try to get some of the smaller enemies grouped together and use your Impact on them. I found that walking in a circle to get enough around you and then backing yourself into a corner or wall works best. If you can kill 5 enemies in one whoosh, you will get:

  • Haymaker

Kill 5 enemies in one shot with Impact.

    Haymaker
Online/Offline - These trophies can be obtained in either an online or offline mode.Single Player - These trophies can be obtained by a single player.Cooperative - These trophies can be obtained by two or more players in a cooperative game mode who have met the trophy requirements.

Now switch your ability to Shockwave. Try and group up 6 enemies so you can send them all sky-high in one go. Use those same tactics as the above trophy. Do that and this will unlock:

Keep using Shockwave until you have amassed 50 kills with it. You may have unlocked this earlier but you can get it now or later. It's your call. Once that requirement has been met, another trophy is yours:

  • Zero G War

Kill 50 Shockwaved enemies before they hit the ground.

    Zero G War
Online/Offline - These trophies can be obtained in either an online or offline mode.Single Player - These trophies can be obtained by a single player.Cooperative - These trophies can be obtained by two or more players in a cooperative game mode who have met the trophy requirements.Cumulative + - These trophies are obtained by repeatedly performing the same action or set of actions over time.

Now switch your Nano Forge ability to Berserk. (Please note you may not have this fully upgraded at this point...if not, take note and do this on a later mission) Activate Berserk and kill as many enemies as you can, as quickly as you can. The best way to do this is to get a kill, wait a second, then get another kill. You may be in an area where there aren't many enemies and if you kill them too fast you wont be able to get that timer up. If you can keep Berserk active for 21 seconds, this trophy will unlock:

  • Lock And Load

Keep Berserk active for at least 21 seconds in one use.

    Lock And Load
Online/Offline - These trophies can be obtained in either an online or offline mode.Single Player - These trophies can be obtained by a single player.Cooperative - These trophies can be obtained by two or more players in a cooperative game mode who have met the trophy requirements.

That's plenty of trophies for this mission. Keep traveling through the bug infested Marauder bunker and once you complete the mission, you will pop this trophy:

  • Plan B

Find out how to reach the lair.

    Plan B
Offline Mode - These trophies require play in game modes that do not require a connection to any live services, such as Play Station Network.Single Player - These trophies can be obtained by a single player.Main Storyline - These trophies are gained automatically by progressing through the main game mode.

Since you've done such a great job getting all those trophies, I think it's a good idea to progress through a couple of story missions. (If you happened to miss a trophy in a prior mission you can do them in the next few storyline missions.) You'll be down in the lava pits of Mars. You and Sgt. Winters will be on a barge for most of it. This level is a BITCH on Insane. So learn to snap and shoot on the barge with the turret while on Easy. The enemies are relentless and you are unable to use the Nano Forge while riding the barge. Eventually you will be in an area where you need to shoot at some ominous machine like thing in the lava. Once these two missions are done, you will have earned these 2 trophies:

When you find yourself back into a Mantis (which is just a big Scout Walker) you will need to navigate your way to the lair. On your excursions make sure to destroy 100 of the bugs' pods. There are plenty to shoot so you should have no problem getting this trophy:

This mission is fairly quick and once you arrive at the lair, this trophy will unlock (also...this mission made me sad and you probably now know why):

  • Losses

Make it through to the lair.

    Losses
Offline Mode - These trophies require play in game modes that do not require a connection to any live services, such as Play Station Network.Single Player - These trophies can be obtained by a single player.Main Storyline - These trophies are gained automatically by progressing through the main game mode.

It's time to fight the big bug! It's just a little bit bigger than the behemoth...you'll see what I mean. It's a loooong walk to get to the Queen. You will need to shoot some tentacle ends to open up more of the path to actually reach the fighting stage so you can slaughter this menace. When you finally reach her, use the plasma beam on her weak parts (most of the weak spots are on the face). Those two rocks that are convenient to hide behind will eventually be smashed to bits so you wont have cover after awhile. There are also little bugs around so try and vanquish the Queen as quickly as possible. Once she falls, you will unlock:

Your next quest is to get back into the Terraformer and get it running again. Once you get everything in order you will have to defend the power core from the bugs. Just keep tapping cn_L1 to keep those cores repaired and continue shooting bugs. Eventually you will get the Terraformer running again and earn this trophy:

NICE WORK! You've successfully completed the campaign. I'm damn proud! Now obviously you're thinking the same thing I am...there are still some trophies to get! So let's get back on the saddle and mop up this single player. Make sure you select New Game+. You will keep all your upgrades and abilities. Also set the difficulty to Insane. When you complete the campaign again, it will stack with the trophy for beating it on the Hard difficulty.

The enemies on Insane will do more damage to you but not as much as you would expect. The biggest difference by playing on Insane is how many bullets it takes to kill enemies. Thankfully there is ammo everywhere and if you buy a cheat, which I definitely recommend you do, this hurdle is not hard to overcome.

There were only 2 missions that I personally had some slight difficulty with. The first was the fight with Hale when he was in the walker. The foot soldiers that are scattered around your mine cart travels can pick away at your health and not give you much time to regenerate any. This can be a problem because your main focus has to be on Hale since he can squish you like a bug. You need to be quick about shooting a few soldiers then going back to slowing down Hale. You will eventually get to the fight with Hale which isn't bad at all. It is just like your casual run.

The second mission I struggled with was the barge mission while traveling through the lava in Mars' underground caverns. This mission can be difficult even on Casual so I am sure you know how frustrating that this will be. You need to become a pro at snap-shooting on the turret. To do this, just tap cn_L1 and mow them down with cn_R1. The mission doesn't get overly hard until the final room when you have to shoot the machine parts. You must shoot some of the enemies every once in awhile or you will never see the end of this mission on Insane.

If you are having troubles on any other missions, please feel free to send me a message and I will be able to offer some advice. As I stated earlier, this game is not brutally difficult on insane, save for a few missions. Take your time, buy a cheat or two, and enjoy the nice gold trophy you get for completing it on Insane!

Make sure you have your hammer equipped often for most of these missions. You need to kill at least 1 of each enemy with the hammer. So that means Cultists, Behemoth, Berserker, Creeper and even the machine enemies such as a Shiva. I personally found the worst to be the Behemoth for the obvious reason that he can kill you very quickly. Once you smash your last required enemy you will pop:

Keep ugrading your skills and once you buy the upgrade that allows you deflect attacks with your shield, equip it. I found it easier to use the bugs that throw stuff at you to get the trophy for killing something with your shell. Another good enemy to attempt this on is the Cultists while you are on the surface of Mars. It may take awhile and a few attempts but once you do, you will get:

  • Back At Ya!

Make an enemy kill themselves while shooting at your Shell.

    Back At Ya!
Online/Offline - These trophies can be obtained in either an online or offline mode.Single Player - These trophies can be obtained by a single player.Cooperative - These trophies can be obtained by two or more players in a cooperative game mode who have met the trophy requirements.

When you are piloting the Inferno GX (the plane thing in the mission near the end of the game) fly straight into an enemy. Successfully doing so will earn you this:

  • Hit 'N Run

Kill an enemy by ramming them with the Inferno GX.

    Hit 'N Run
Offline Mode - These trophies require play in game modes that do not require a connection to any live services, such as Play Station Network.Single Player - These trophies can be obtained by a single player.

After one full playthrough and most of a second one, you will have earned enough salvage to unlock:

If you keep buying your upgrades and abilities you will eventually buy the last one and then this trophy will be yours:

Keep saving your salvage until you are able to purchase a cheat. The cheapest cheats are the unlimited ammo ones. You need 5000 salvage to buy any of the unlimited ammo cheats. NONE of the cheats will void any trophy in the game. If you want you can buy more than one if you are so inclined. Once you buy it, you will unlock:

As for the final 2 trophies, you just need to beat the campaign on Insane (they are stackable). You should be fully leveled and upgraded. If you have bought any cheats, USE them. They will not interfere in your trophy unlocking. Once you complete the campaign on Insane, these will both unlock for you:

CONGRATS! You have completed the campaign for Red Faction: Armageddon. I hope you enjoyed the story as much as I did!

Infestation mode is comparable to a horde/zombies mode. I did the trophies with my friend and it helped make the time go a lot better. I highly recommend finding someone who can share the torture of this boring mode. There aren't many trophies tied up into this mode and none of them are actually difficult. I would say that a couple are time consuming (and by that it probably will only take a couple hours to do the trophies). The 4-player achievement is your worst enemy here. The servers are pretty much dead. You may find one random loitering around but don't count on finding 3 other people. You'll definitely have to do a session for that.

You are able to unlock trophies that are tied to killing enemies in a certain way and gathering salvage and upgrades.

Select Infestation mode from the Start Screen and you are given some options as to your character and emblem. You do NOT have to worry about which character you are or anything like that. Just select a map and you will be starting on Wave 1. Power yourself through the first 10 Waves (the first 9 waves are very simple) and you will earn:

Wave 10 can be a pain in the arse. But you will be handsomely rewarded because Wave 11-14 are very easy waves. It's almost too good to be true right? I am guessing how they set up Armageddon's Infestation mode is Waves 1-8 are fairly easy. Waves 9-10 are a little more difficult. Then it cycles itself and Waves 11-18 are easier than Wave 10. But now Waves 19-20 will be your hardest waves yet. If you find yourself completing Wave 20, you should pop this:

Only 1/3 more to go! Waves 21-28 are again fairly easy. There will be more enemies on these waves but they aren't overly difficult. Wave 29-30 should go well for you at this point. You will have "unlocked" all the good weapons by now and even though these last 2 waves are technically the most difficult, you should survive without problems. At the end of Wave 30, you pop:

You will need at least one friendy to do this next trophy. But it's fairly easy. Just select Wave 26 or so on the map you completed. Invite your boosting buddy and make sure the difficulty is set on hard or insane. Either let the bugs knock you down or kill yourself with the rocket launcher and start the reviving. Take note though, you can only get knocked down so many times in a round. If you go past what the game allows you (it shows how many lives you have on the screen) then you die and cannot finish the round. So always make sure you have one life left and finish the wave. Rinse and repeat until you and your friend have 25 revives and this trophy is yours:

The 4 player trophy is actually incredibly simple. Load up a map and while it does not matter which map it is, make darn sure that the level you start on is 11. To make life easier for everyone, set the difficulty to easy. All you have to do is gather 3 other people and make sure that everyone survives this one single wave and this trophy is yours:

The most annoying Infestation trophy requires you to finish one wave on each map. In order to do this however, you must complete at least 5 waves on each of the "day" maps. Once this is done, you will have unlocked the "night" versions of each map. Then all you have to do is complete 1 wave on each of the "night" maps. Infestation contains 8 maps and then when you add the night maps in, it brings the total to 16. This requires a minimum of 48 waves to play through (40 waves for day maps, 8 waves for night maps). Once this shotgun-in-the-mouth torture is done, you will earn:

And Infestation mode is done! There is no true multiplayer so be thankful we've been spoiled this whole time!

Welcome to the Path to War DLC for Red Faction: Armageddon! The trophies listed in here are incredibly easy to get. They are all campaign related and the story of the campaign is set a few hours before the terraformer falls in the core campaign. 5 of the trophies are automatically earned just by beating levels. While the other 5 are earned by doing certain things in those levels. Let's get this train rolling!

The first mission of the DLC will have you in one of those spiffy Inferno planes. You will travel through some mountains laying waste to anything and everything in your way. Switch to the thermal view so it's easier to see who you are supposed to shoot at. You need to eliminate all enemies in this level. It's not as difficult as it seems and once you have accomplished liquidating all enemies, you get:

  • Bird of Prey

Allow no Red Faction to survive your attacks on their mountain base. (Downloadable Content)

    Bird of Prey

It shouldn't be long after that trophy that you will finish the mission and earn yourself:

On to the next mission! You are in a tank for the entire mission and let me tell you...this tank is a TANK. It is a bit awkward to control but just keep chugging along blowin' shit up and rolling through whatever gets in your way. About halfway through the mission, Sgt. Winters will yell over the intercom that some boys in the Red Faction need some help. It's not out of your way and I believe it's actually impossible to miss this trophy. Once you have helped the Faction, you get this mid-mission trophy:

Keep progressing through the story and you'll fall off a bridge and then you will need to help the Faction once more by destroying some barriers in their way. Once that is done, you will get the trophy for completing the second mission:

The 3rd mission has you on the ground with no vehicles...which is quite switch at this point! But you get access to a beast of a weapon in the Shard Cannon. The game will prompt you to run forward and pick it up after you place the first orbital beacon. If you can allow yourself to get yourself 20 kills with the Shard Cannon, you will earn this trophy:

Before you plant another beacon you will cross a bridge and their will be a turret at the end of it. Take note of this position. Go across it and plant the next orbital beacon. Once you do, enemies will spawn behind you by the bridge you just crossed. Jump on the turret and start mowing them down. You may need to use the Nano Forge and repair the turret at some point since one of the wankers shooting at you has a gun that disintegrates the turret. But make sure you take down at least 10 enemies and this trophy will pop:

You will keep planting orbital beacons to destroy some force fields then SAM will make the comment that the Shard Cannon is being targeted with an orbital strike. You will be advised to drop the weapon and make a run for it. Once you drop it and run a little bit away from it the mission will end and this trophy is yours:

The final mission of the DLC gets you another weapon! It's called the Sharpshooter and it has a unique property of sticking enemies to walls. You don't get a whole lot of ammo for this thing. So you will probably get 10 kills or so and have to hit an ammo box to replenish some bullets. But get yourself 20 kills with the Sharpshooter and you will get:

Progress through the mission and you will be tasked with defeating Mallus. He goes down fairly easy and once his health bar is gone you will get:

After that you need to basically liquidate all enemies in the area. That means all the cultists and the bugs must die! After the last enemy falls, you will get the final DLC trophy:

  • Triple Threat

End the three-way battle between yourself, the aliens, and the Cultists. (Downloadable Content)

    Triple Threat

And you are now officially done with the DLC! Told you it wasn't that bad!
