Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight

Welcome to the walkthrough for Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight. This guide will help you attain all 42 trophies with the least amount of fuss.

You'll need to clear each song in the game on at least one difficulty to unlock the last difficulty. You'll also need to unlock and view every character's Social Events, which are unlocked by hitting milestones on a variety of tasks. Some will come naturally as you play, like getting Brilliants on a number of songs or unlocking modifiers. The rest will come by changing your costume and accessories on each song. Score is not important, and you can turn on any number of Support modifiers you desire in order to make songs easier.

There are no Online trophies, only Offline. There are some free DLC songs and costumes, along with paid DLC options. But none of these are necessary to 100% the game. At a minimum, you will need to play a song to completion 70 times. But hopefully, with good planning, that will be all that you need.

As this is a Music and Rhythm game you’re going to need a decent amount of rhythm skills in order to play the game. However there are not too many songs to learn, and a good amount of them are remixes, so you should be able to learn the songs after a while.

The biggest tip I can give you in regards to this game is the following:

Take breaks.

This game is a bit of a visual nightmare. There are constant, contrasting colors flying across the screen. Compared to playing Persona 4: Dancing All Night on the Vita, this game actually becomes more difficult to play on a larger screen because your eyes need to keep following the notes, and it can get straining pretty easily.

There are two types of songs in the game. Most will have a character on screen performing the dance. The other will be a music video or something that's more intensely choreographed. You'll be able to tell what is which when you select a song. The former will show a character, the latter will show a square image. The goal is to limit how many of these music video songs we play, as they do not count for a few Social Events.

Every time you play a song using a character, you MUST change their costume and as many accessories as possible.

Once you start the game, go to the DANCING menu. This will play out a cutscene. At the end of the cutscene, you'll receive new outfits, automatically unlocking IRL Debut:

Next, go through and play through all of the Tutorials. After the first Tutorial, you'll unlock Better Safe than Sorry:

Aside from that, doing all the tutorials will unlock the 'Gauge automatically fills' on scratch notes, and the Challenge modifier: 'Gauge is still depleted for MISSes during fever'. All modifiers need to be unlocked over time.

Now that the tutorial is finished, go ahead and start the Dancing. You'll get introduced to the characters, and unlocked a trophy for seeing your first Social Event:

Just Another Day

Watched a Social event.

With that done, start the first level: "Mass Destruction ("P3" + "P3P" ver.) on Easy difficulty. Do not change the main dancer, but change the Costume Settings as much as possible. Do this for every song. For now, you can only change the outfit and hair. More will unlock over time. Do your best to beat the song without missing any of the beats. As the easiest song, this is the best chance to do it. Miss no beats, and you'll unlock:

The Usurper of Rankings

Earned the highest possible grade on a stage (KING CRAZY).

For beating the level, you'll also unlock:

Welcome to the Club

Cleared a stage.

If you have unlocked any Social Events, watch them immediately. Always watch these Events when they unlock.

Start the next song "When the Moon Reaches for the Stars". This time, go to the Custom Settings and change the Note Speed to 1. Complete the level. This unlocks the Challenge modifier "Notes are super-slow".

Start the next song "Soul Phrase". Change the Note Speed to 7. Complete the level, and do not hit any 'Scratch' notes. This unlocks the Challenge modifier "Notes are super-fast", and the Support modifier "Automatic PERFECT on scratch notes".

Start "Wiping All Out (ATLUS Kozuka Remix). Change the Note Speed to anything besides 4. This unlocks the Challenge modifier "Note speed fluctuates."

At this point, continue playing through the songs on Easy difficulty. Do your best to get at least a "BRILLIANT" rating on every song you play. Ken's Social Events require 47 Brilliant ratings total, and Aigis requires 20,000 Perfect notes to be hit.

As you play through the songs in order, changing costumes with each character, you'll naturally unlock:

An Exclusive Stylist

Changed costumes and played a stage with each of the members of SEES (excluding Koromaru and Shinjiro).

As you keep watching Social Events, you'll earn:

Watched 20 Social events.

The last song you'll play on Easy will be "Burn My Dread". This will earn you:

The Time for Challenge Has Come

Unlocked the highest difficulty level (ALL NIGHT).

Now that All Night difficulty has been unlocked, time for a bit of fun. Go to All Night Difficulty, and play "Mass Destruction (Tetsuya Kobayashi Remix). Don't hit any notes. The goal is to fail the song in ten seconds. This will unlock the challenge modifier "Game Over with combo break", and unlock:

Going into Orgia Mode

Beat your own high score.

by now, then go back to Easy difficulty, and select a song you didn't get Brilliant on. Simply get a better score to unlock that trophy. Even when replaying a song you've already beaten, remember to change your costumes, hair, accessories, and so on. By now you should have the ability to select a favorite outfit. Do so by pressing the Touchscreen button, and you'll unlock:

Personalized Fashion

Registered a costume as a Favorite.

When you have the ability to change eye and hair color, change everything in the character at once, and start a song, you'll unlock:

Who Even Are You?

Started a stage with a different hairstyle, two accessories, colored contacts, and a colored wig.

As you've gone through all the songs on Easy, now you need to play a few specific songs on specific difficulties in order to unlock character-specific trophies. You only need to clear these, so you can use all the support modifiers you want. But keep the characters and supports the same.

Full Bloom Fever

Pick a song on Normal difficulty you haven't played yet, and play it with either "Notes Fade In" or "Notes Fade Out" challenge modifier on. This will unlock the "Note Speeds Waver" challenge modifier.
Play another song with that challenge modifier on, and it'll unlock "Not Paths Waver".
Play a different song with the challenge modifier "Notes are Reversed", and that will unlock the "Notes are Random" challenge modifier.
Play yet a different song with three support modifiers on, and that will unlock the "Gauge fills more slowly" support modifier.
Ideally, this will now have unlocked every Support and Challenge modifier, except for possibly "Notes are invisible" from Akihiko's final support.

Play a song, and change the 'Hype Gauge' difficulty modifier in the Custom settings to unlock:

As Long As You're Groovin'

Cleared a stage after changing Hype Gauge difficulty in Custom.

Clear a song with both "GOOD ratings won't break combos" and "Game Over with combo break" enabled to unlock:

Carrot and Stick Approach

Cleared a stage with both "GOOD ratings won't break combos" and "Game Over with combo break" enabled.

Start a song on All Night difficulty, with at least 10 challenge modifiers to unlock the next trophy. You don't have to finish the song. You probably won't.

Chance Encounter with the Final Boss

Started a stage on ALL NIGHT difficulty with 10 or more Challenge modifiers enabled.

Clear a song on Hard difficulty with all the Support modifiers on to unlock:

Committed to the Result

Cleared a stage on HARD or harder with all Support modifiers enabled.

And with all the supports, you should be able to hit at least half the perfects to get:

Innate Ability

Cleared a stage on HARD or harder and earned a PERFECT rating on at least half of the Notes.

Clear a song with both "Note paths waver" and "Note speed fluctuates" enabled to unlock:

The Unhittable Pitch

Cleared a stage with both "Note paths waver" and "Note speed fluctuates" enabled.

Lastly, clear a stage with 5 Challenge and 5 Support modifiers simultaneously enabled, to unlock:

At this point, all that should be left are various achievements for unlocking all items and seeing everybody's social events. When you unlock the 5th social event, you get access to 6, 7, and 8. Playing the 6th of any character should net you:

The Crib Visit

Explored a friend's room.

The important thing about these social events is after the event, you have the chance to walk around the room. Each level, except Elle-P, will have a card hidden in it. You need to find all of the cards in order to unlock all the costumes, accessories, and modifiers, and to unlock the last trophies.
