You get this after fighting the first boss, there's about 5-10 minutes of gameplay before it.
Once you beat the boss, you'll unlock the charged Cypher, then the game will show you how to unlock doors (charge your Cypher hit the red object by the door).
While I had trouble beating the first boss on hard (and the game's checkpoint system sucked), it was a cake walk on Normal.
