It took a while for me to get this one; so, here are some tips.
1. Get any bait that can reach all the way to the 150m mark when you cast (like lobsters, prawns, or shrimp). The easiest to get is the shrimp which you can buy at the downtown fish market for 700 yen.
2. Only cast if the fish tracker shows one on the far right near the 150m mark. If there isn't one there, leave the minigame and come back.
3. Be ready to hit the
X button at a moment's notice after the cast. There is almost no margin for error on the hook, and, if you're a nanosecond too late, you lose your bait.
4. When you hook the fish, tap the
R1 button to reel it in. If you hold it, you raise your chances of breaking the line. If you use
L1 to slack the line, you won't make progress at all. Keep an eye on which direction the fish is going, and press the left thumbstick in the corresponding direction. Only risk holding
R1 if the tension meter is in the green. Any higher, go back to tapping.
This wasn't easy; I burned through about 40,000 yen worth of shrimp before I got it. Hopefully, these tips will make it easier for others.
