    Hints & Tips

    EAGLE EYE
Click L3 and R3 together to activate Eagle Eye, allowing you to see animals and their tracks. You are taught how to use this as part of one the first missions in the game and you will need it. A lot.

    COVER YOUR STINK
When hunting, ALWAYS use Cover Scent Lotion - it will allow you get closer to animals without them running away. Your character gets very stinky very quickly, so unless you fancy taking a bath every 10-15 minutes this is your best option.

    PREDATORS
Panthers, Cougars and Wolves will attack on site, stopping you from studying them. There are 2 ways to solve this:

    - Use Cover Scent Lotion and Predator Bait (for Panthers you need Potent Predator Bait) to lure them to a specific spot. This only works sporadically in my experience, and on most occasions they will still attack you, ignoring the bait.
    - Use a poison arrow to wound the animal. This is your safest bet - you will need to craft a few poison arrows and then hit the animal with a body shot whilst it is attacking. Once you've hit it, it will run off and collapse, this is when you can study it.

    SMALL BIRDS
Nearly all of the small birds can be found in the Raonoke Valley, lining the river. To find them, use your binoculars and scan the rocks at the side of the river. Up north of the river there is a waterfall where a lot of the rarer birds spawn (Robin, Blue Jay, Cardinal, Sparrow).

    THE ELUSIVE HUSKY
There is a farm at Manzanita Post just south-west of Blackwater where the Husky is a guaranteed spawn. As far as I'm aware this is the single spawn of this dog in the whole game.

    SUPER RARE MOOSE
The Western Bull Moose is probably the rarest spawn in the game. In the video they are hunting in the Grizzlies, but an alternate location is Owanjila Lake. Create a save whilst standing on the bridge and keep reloading from there. After a time you should see the Moose swimming across the lake.

    SNAKES!
The easiest method of finding a snake is to ride around the area on your horse until a red dot appears on the map - this means that a snake has tried to attack you. Loop back quickly and you should be able to find it in the area where the dot appeared. You can use eagle eye to track it.

    IF AT FIRST...
For everything on this list, you can use the 'reload' trick (Save Game > Exit Game > Reload), this will respawn all the wildlife in the area. This is also how you can get 3-star pelts easier, as you can reload the same animal until it is a 3-star. This is particularly useful for domestic animals. On most farms you can find chickens/roosters, pigs, cows and bulls. When you find one particular breed, you can save and reload and the breed has a chance to respawn as one of the others required.

A FEW OF THE VERY RARE ONES
There are a few animals that are very rare spawns. Below are some alternate locations from the video which may help.

    020. Cedar Waxwing (and other small birds) - These spawn in groups at Manteca Falls, south of Thieves Landing.
    047. Siberian Husky - Manzanita Post
    079. Western Bull Moose - Owanjila Lake (save and reload, he should spawn crossing the lake)
    080. Western Moose - Far North-East by Willard's Rest, by the Waterfall
