There's an exploit in Ironman mode caused by the autosaving that allows you to completely skip the AI's turn whenever you wish.

All you need to do is simply load your autosave during your final turn but before it shifts over to your opponent. For example (and what I recommend), make your final action of the turn an attack of some kind (ie, a shot or grenade throw) and then hit pause and load the autosave immediately after the mini-cutscene ends. If your last action is movement, just make sure to pause and load as soon as your soldier begins running.

What this does (if done correctly) is completely skip the AI's turn and go straight to your next one. Obviously, this makes the entire thing a massive cakewalk. The only major downside (besides your personal feelings on cheesing) is having to sit through the loading screen every time you do it, but that's a pretty small price to pay for allowing you endless turns whenever you want.

Now a couple things to note:
1. In timed missions the countdown will continue when using this trick so keep that in mind.
2. I believe the sole exception to this exploit is the re-animated Andromedon. If you kill its first form but don't finish it, its re-animated form will still have its turn.
Edit: Also be wary of Chryssalids, their pods, and Faceless. From what I experienced, melee enemies that spawn on the enemy turn (ie, bursting out of the ground or morphing, respectively) in range of your soldiers can still attack you so make sure you take that into consideration.

Here's a brief video I made showing what I mean/how to do it.
