Tanks start appearing at level 3. You can either destroy them outright or get your turrets to help you. You'll earn this at some point (potentially in level 3) the best thing to do is get your strongest weapons and just blast the tanks with them.
It might be harder the first time you meet them, but you should unlock this quickly. If you have powered up any of your weapons (farming kills) it should be a lot easier.
