You've probably come here because your game is crashing at the 4th checkpoint on S.S.2 Nambucca. The good news is that your console isn't dying, and it's not just you that is experiencing the issue. It seems there is some kind of bug in the game that causes this, and it is believed to be related to the weather (random) in the conditions 'fog & rain'.

There are few workarounds (I personally went with 2);
1 Race the Australia rally within a WRC-2 contract that does not contain S.S.2 Nambucca. Unfortunately this is completely random. If none of the available WRC-2 contracts feature the Australia rally, back out with cn_O, return to the contract selection and the rallies will have changed.

2 Select to 'Give up' the race in your affected career, and feel free to repeat for the remaining events in Australia. Complete the career as normal, and you should still have enough points to win the 'World Champion!' (WRC) or 'Second step...' (WRC-2) trophy. Take a new contract, skip all of the rallies using the 'Give up' method until you reach Australia again, and pray that the weather for S.S.2 Nambucca is either sunny or just foggy, which is once again completely random. All being well, you should be able to pass the bugged checkpoint without the game crashing and complete the rally as normal.

3 There is a way that the bug can be bypassed, but it can take a few attempts to succeed and the 'Very large off-road respawn' option must be selected within the game's difficulty settings before attempting it. Though it seems unnatural, this workaround requires you to be slow. Apparently the issue isn't with the checkpoint itself, but is with the tarmac section of the road within this final checkpoint.

At the left turn prior to the checkpoint, slowly drive to the left of the tarmac and follow the edge of the hill around as far as you can. You'll likely be respawned to the tarmac at least once, slowly idle the car back to the left, and continue until you reach the flat grassy areas. Proceed to drive along the grass, staying a few car lengths away from the tarmac If at any point you respawn back to the tarmac - which is very likely - slowly idle the car back to the grass again and continue. Near the end of the stage, try to gain a bit of speed on the final hill, veer back towards the tarmac and idle across the finish but do not exit the race.

With the hardest part out of this workaround out of the way, press cn_S to retry the race (yes, you've read that correctly). This time, drive the stage as normal and allow the crash to occur. Alternatively, you may be able to simply quit the game back to the console dashboard as this would have the same effect, but make sure that you start the rally again and the game saves before doing so. Restart the game and load your save, which should take you to S.S.3. Finish this stage as normal, and you should be in 1st place with only your times from S.S.1 and S.S.3 being counted, allowing you to continue and win the Australia rally.
