"without cheating" means without reading the cheat sheet you get from the speakeasy bar while Artie was being interrogated. You can take it, but just don't examine it in inventory.

When you do return to the speakeasy and have to give an entry code, listen in on the person before you.
Notice how he always takes the last syllable of the doorman's question as the beginning of his answer.
So when Matches asks you questions, remember what the last syllable sounded like and match it to an answer option with the same-sounding first syllable.
(e.g. "Where you from?" "From Russia, with love.")
Keep that in mind, and you won't need to read the cheat sheet and should be able to get this trophy without too much hassle.
Have fun!
