As clearly stated in the literal wording, this trophy is achieved by the total number of tricks across all characters' progresses.

The count increases by the number of tricks within a combination. So
Boneless + 180 Kickflip + Kickflip + Impossible + Revert + Manual = 5 tricks, not 1. Gaps within a chain are also counted as tricks.

Also, regardless of how long your combo is, you must land the combo for those tricks to count.

This popped for me not long after my first semi-complete playthrough with my first character. However, the rate in which you may acquire it can be influenced by your experience/skill level. And not just by having a better land-to-not-land ratio.

For example, if you cn_X -> cn_left+cn_X x 25,000 while standing still, you'll slowly kickflip your way to success. However, if you find a decent enough path that you can create a chain with, ideally one that has gaps filled throughout it, you'll get it faster. There are many, many possibilities within levels to utilize. I found a pretty gnarly back-and-forth path in The Bunker that I was able to pump up my multiplier pretty fast. (It's not like the level wasn't already familiar from THPS1.)

You can check your progress by selecting "Customize Skater" from the Main Menu, pressing cn_S on any "Style"/Character and then toggling over to "Bests" by pressing cn_L1 or cn_R1. The count is listed as "Tricks Performed".

One last thing: You don't need to be doing a trick in a Trick Attack session or mission for the trick to count. Freeskate works fine too.

Best of luck!
