Here we are in the GOTY 2024 fourth Preliminaries, and it's a clash of two incredible universes, both of which share spacefaring settings and greedy emperors who spread their civilizations in the name of progress and ultimate power. So, will those Star Wars Outlaws trophies prove better than these gory Warhammer 40K Space Marine II trophies? Pick your favorite in the GOTY Vote below!

Game of the Year 2024 (Preliminaries #4) — Star Wars Outlaws vs Warhammer 40K Space Marine II

  • Star Wars Outlaws was released in August 2024 and offers players an open-world adventure in the rich Star Wars universe
  • Warhammer 40K Space Marine II is a tight third-person shooter and action game that sees you cut through hundreds of enemies in a meaty campaign and online modes
  • Which of the two most deserves to be Game of the Year 2024? Vote in the poll below!
2024 turned out to be a big year for games with questionable emperors lurking away in their source material. I skipped Star Wars Outlaws because it appeared to disappoint a lot of fans — however, that didn't stop TrueTrophies Lee from enjoying the game in his Star Wars Outlaws review. Meanwhile, I sunk my teeth so deep into Warhammer 40K Space Marine II that it's become a part of me.
Star Wars Outlaws is an open-world adventure game developed by Ubisoft, which should give you a pretty good idea of what the gameplay entails. How good the game is depends on who you speak to, as some experienced unavoidable bugs in forced stealth sections, ruining it for them. Others simply couldn't get enough of the meals and the animation of main character Kay's pet and partner Nix eating them.

That said, the game's story seemed to land well with those who saw it through to the end and benefitted from the intriguing gangs you get to be a small part of in major questlines. I have to admit that after playing as a Jedi in more than a few PS4 and PS5 games, the idea of becoming a more grounded wanted criminal in the same universe is enticing.
Warhammer 40K Space Marine II is an incredibly special game from World War Z developer Saber Interactive. It utilizes the same swarm technology to throw hordes of Xenos called Tyranids your way, and all you have to take them out is a couple of firearms and a chainsword.

This entry brings the fantasy of the Warhammer 40K universe to life in a way anybody can enjoy. I'm a big fan of the tabletop game, but I've seen plenty of newcomers thrash out the campaign and stick around for the replayable PvE multiplayer Operations missions.

While its PvP could definitely do with some attention, the game is a shining example of what a Warhammer 40K game should look like and opens the doors to a universe that's grim and dark but so inviting that you'll never want to leave.

We're currently in the fourth round of Preliminaries of the TrueTrophies Game of the Year Tournament 2024. The winner from this round will face Call of Duty Black Ops 6 in Round #4. One of these games has the potential to breeze through that next round, but which one makes it there depends on you and your vote. Don't let the Emperor down.
