Sonic Frontiers was able to hold back one major car franchise this year, absolutely demolishing Need for Speed Unbound — but can it take down a PlayStation Studios icon? One of the best racing games on PS5, Gran Turismo 7 is peddling your baby's first anime aesthetics and fancy celebrity cameos like NFS; it just offers the rawest thrills.

However, while it is the seventh best Sonic game on PlayStation, a title which might not sound wonderful enough to net it Game of the Year, Sonic Frontiers did have a far less bumpy 2022 than its competitor. After delivering effusive praise in our Gran Turismo 7 review, to have to endure the game's shifting economy and platinum trophy problems was something of a gut punch.
