The Last of Us Part 1 vs Tactics Ogre Reborn

Could there be a more beautiful pairing of remasters to mark the finale of this year's Remake/Remaster of the Year qualifier? On one hand, the cornerstone of modern PlayStation, Naughty Dog's perpetual remake baby, and all-round "good art" (as is coined in
our review), The Last of Us Part 1. On the other hand, a gem from the original PlayStation that has seen just as many remasters and, in its own pocket of game design, is respected in much the same way for its masterstroke-like pacing, Tactics Ogre Reborn.

It's tough being a remake or a remaster in a contest that prioritises 'newness,' but the best thing about both these games is that they hardly feel 'old' at all. The game design on show here still feels fresh and exciting, and it's anyone's guess who will come out on top in the next round against Dying Light 2: Stay Human — though, admittedly, it would be pretty funny to see an all-zombie jamboree should The Last of Us get through.
