Popular PlayStation Games — July 31st, 2022

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,

PS Plus mega-hit Stray has found the top of the most popular PlayStation games for the last week on PS5 and PS4, followed closely by the massive rise of MultiVersus. Meanwhile, Elden Run slips and No Man's Sky resurfaces.

Stray has once again found first place on the popular PlayStation games chart as it dominates the PlayStation Plus games lists for Extra and Premium subscribers. Meanwhile, the fighting game MultiVersus has stormed up the rankings with abandon, flattening even Elden Ring.

StrayStray still hits big on PS Plus

Our Stray review praised the game and we are glad to say it seems to be going down well and might end up as one of the best PS Plus games. Despite the game taking a 38% decline in player count from last week, the sci-fi title is still scraping first place in front of Fall Guys with a total player count difference of 8% between the two games. The wonderful Stray glitches might not be coming to PS Plus on PC, so the strong numeric performance is a little more flash in the pan than something like Elden Ring (currently down in 11th), we suspect. This is especially true given the Stray trophies aren't that hard, leaving it a little locking in replayability and longevity.

The next major talking point here is the rise to stardom of MultiVersus. Warner Bros. Interactive's brawler brings together plenty of IP from across its various brands like DC, Scooby-Doo, and Game of Thrones, and the effort that has gone into it has paid off as it the player count increased by 432% from close beta to public release. It is one of the most popular fighting games around right now with an incredibly high uptake in players, so let us see if it can hold on to sixth next week.

Wrapping up this week's list are a few other notable mentions. The first is No Man's Sky which has entered the chart for the first time in the 38th position thanks to another title update. Warframe continues to stay in the spotlight with a rise by one place to 36th alongside other rising classics like Mortal Kombat 11 and Final Fantasy XIV. These are games that spiral around this area with latent audiences, but bound much further up the list after an update or a big event. Amazingly, EA SPORTS UFC 4 has somehow also made a re-appearance in the chart after being included in the PS Plus games for February 2022.

That's your lot on the analysis for this week! Let us know your thoughts in the comments. Here are the top 40 popular PlayStation games for the week ending July 31st, 2022.
