Update: The Last of Us Part 2 has now been officially announced by Naughty Dog. Check out the trailer below.
Original Story: Who wants more The Last of Us Part II trophies? Well, the answer to that will actually probably be complex if the reception of the game at launch in 2020 as one of the best PS4 games is anything to go by. But, thanks to some PSN tomfoolery, The Last of Us Part 2 PS5 port has leaked.

Naughty Dog looks set to release TLOU P2 for PS5 soon

The news comes by way of PlayStation Game Size on X, formerly known as Twitter. We've included the tweet below, but the incredibly reliable account has scanned in a version of The Last of Us Part II on the backend of PSN as a native PS5 version. There is no date according to the account, "but should be one soon." It's not much, but this account is accurate and reliable so TLOU P2 definitely exists on the backend and no it's just a question of how long we have to wait to find out more.

Ever since The Last of Us Part I hit PS5 last year with a graphical overhaul, a new 'Part I' moniker, and reworked enemies, the curiosity about why TLOU P2 was stuck with only a PS4 native version increased. You'd have to imagine a PS5 port of the sequel would target graphics and frame rates, as well as the normal array of haptic feedback and 3D audio to keep it in line with the PS5 hardware. If I'm getting really wild, I wonder if they might add a 'chronological order' mode for the events of the game.

It looks like PlayStation Studios-favorite Naughty Dog is now priming to announce the game soon, suggesting that The Game Awards on December 7, 2023, might be the perfect day given that Geoff Keighly-hosted events are where the developer likes to talk about its games. It's where it announced the PS5 port for the first game and spoke briefly about the multiplayer mode.
In some ways, I'd have expected Naughty Dog to move much earlier on the PS5 port because at the moment it seems a few years late (after the release of the PS5). It's hardly a precedent, but TLOU P2 had the same end-of-life PS4 release timing as the first game had on PS3. To tide things over to the next generation previously, Naughty Dog released The Last of Us Remastered only a year after the first game was released on PS3 with a few small upgrades and tweaks.

Maybe the developer wanted to do the port 'properly' for the second game. However, I don't think anyone would have raised an eyebrow had a Ghost of Tsushima or Death Stranding-style release has been done soon after the PS5 launched for The Last of Us Part II. In any case, I'm not complaining it's just an interesting contrast. Plus, I really do love the second game so give me whatever you've got, Naughty Dog!
