The wait for those Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake trophies continues. Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic survives merger shenanigans which has seen Embracer Group announce plans to sell off developer Saber Interactive in a deal worth up to $500 million. This is the second major shake-up the project has seen, after being removed from the original developer Aspyr Media in 2022. Will this game ever make it onto our list of the best PS5 games at this point?

Saber Interactive will continue to develop KOTOR with new owner

As concerning as this news is, we can at least take heart in the fact that the game is still being worked on, and as far as we know, is still coming to PS5 sometime in the next few years. The Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic November 2023 update assured fans that the game is still being worked on, despite an indefinite delay.
Saber Interactive is one of Embracer's largest subsidiaries, with over 3,500 employees. The Swedish firm has been cutting costs over the past year since interest rates soared and the company lost a partnership with Savvy Games Group, a group backed by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund (via Bloomberg).

Embracer's financial woes have led to the shuttering of several high-profile studios including Volition (Saint's Row) and Free Radical (Timesplitters). They've also canceled around 15 unannounced projects from studios including Amplifier, Freemode, Gearbox, Plaion, and THQ Nordic (via Video Games Chronicle).

Hopefully, new ownership will help to stabilize the project, which has been one of the most highly anticipated upcoming PS5 games since its announcement in 2021. The 2003 original was beloved for giving players unprecedented freedom in the Star Wars universe, with its immersive RPG structure laying the groundwork for future Bioware games.

Is Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic still one of your most anticipated PS5 exclusives? Or is this yet another reason to be wary? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
