Good news: there's a new batch of Star Wars Bounty Hunter trophies coming to PS5 and PS4 in 2024! The Star Wars Bounty Hunter PS5 remake announcement hit during a wave of support for PS2 games on PS5, so the timing couldn't be better. That said, we should be cautious about this remake after its developer flubbed the last PS5 Star Wars game.

Star Wars Bounty Hunter remake announced for PS5

Aspyr Media, who you may recall as the studio behind the recent buggy release of Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection, has just announced a new remake of the classic PS2 game Star Wars Bounty Hunter. The action-adventure game starring Jango Fett will launch on PS5 and PS4 on Thursday, August 1, 2024, so it won't be too long a wait until fans can get their hands on this one.
Looking at the footage, the remake looks and feels more like a visual remaster with much of the gameplay seeming relatively untouched. It still looks like the same fun PS2 Star Wars game it always was, although it can't help but look dated even with a new coat of paint. Those slightly stilted animations and the goofy way he aims his wrist flamethrower can't help but feel like relics from gaming's past.

It doesn't help that our confidence in the game's developer, Aspyr Media, has dipped in recent months. It was impossible not to run into myriad bugs and connection issues when compiling our Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection platinum trophy tips back in March 2024. Plus, it has taken until June 2024 for the developer to get the game in a half-presentable fashion.

Ideally, this Star Wars Bounty Hunter PS5 remake will fare better — it doesn't have to contend with any online matchmaking problems — but our hopes aren't high. For this re-release to come out just a few months after the last one doesn't inspire much confidence that Aspyr is taking the time necessary to playtest these Star Wars ports.

Star Wars BountyJango Fett returns!

So, if you are thinking about checking out Star Wars Bounty Hunter on PS5 and PS4, maybe wait to hear what the critics say first to ensure you're getting a quality experience at launch. Or, if you want to play the original PS2 game on PS5 and PS4, you can always check out Star Wars Bounty Hunter via the PS Plus Premium Classics Catalog. It's definitely a bit dated, but at least we know it runs fine!

Is this new PS2 Star Wars game one of your most anticipated upcoming PS5 games of 2024? Or are you also dubious of Star Wars Bounty Hunter's quality? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments below.
