PS Plus Extra day-one success story is officially getting PS5 DLC One of 2023's most successful PS Plus Extra day-one games, Sea of Stars, is getting an official expansion following a recent Sea of Stars DLC announcement.Lee Brady Published 15 Jan 2024 FollowtopicsSea of StarsSabotage StudioPlayStation PlusLee Brady Have you finished collecting all of those Sea of Stars trophies? Well, you might want to keep the game safely stored on your PS5 or PS4 for a little longer, because a recent Sea of Stars DLC announcement means the tale of the Solstice Warriors will continue in the near future. The game leaves plenty of room for a follow-up, so here's hoping this turns out to be some of the best DLC on PS5.Sea of Stars DLC for PS5 and PS4 will be "mysterious and wacky"Announced over on the Sea of Stars' X account, the game's upcoming DLC was revealed by developer Sabotage Studio to have officially moved from pre-production to full-time production. That means the studio has gone all-in on making a Sea of Stars DLC expansion a reality.via X.The official post reads: "Back in November the team gathered for Sabobo Summit where the DLC for Sea of Stars was pitched, along with the vision for "Game 3." Work is going well with the mysterious and wacky DLC which has officially graduated from pre-production! Malevolent spectacle awaits..."The mysterious "Game 3" mentioned above teases another project entirely — a full-on follow-up to Sea of Stars. Details remain completely unconfirmed at this point, so it's unknown if Sabotage's third game will continue to build upon the shared universe established in their first title. The Messenger kicked off the series with superb platforming and their second title, Sea of Stars, filled us in on how much of this world came to be (although largely in subtle hints than actual answers). We'll just have to wait to find out more details about the next title.Sea of Stars DLC could deepen connection with The MessengerAs for the upcoming Sea of Stars DLC, this could very well be intriguing news to fans of the indie RPG. I don't know about you, but by the end of the game, I felt there were certainly a few gaps in the story that could have been filled in just a little bit better.Further connections with The Messenger were teased with the reveal of Barma'thazël, but it never quite pays off in the narrative of Sea of Stars itself. I also felt like the timeline hijinks introduced concerns to the story that remain somewhat unaddressed. I certainly think the narrative wrapped itself up cleanly enough, but I wouldn't be opposed to revisiting some of these lingering story threads in the DLC.Seeing as The Messenger's DLC, Picnic Panic, also introduced a lingering thread involving Barma'thazël and a slightly messed-up timeline, perhaps Sabotage Studio is planning to kill two birds with one stone with this upcoming Sea of Stars DLC. Perhaps we could see the titular Messenger teaming up with our newly anointed guardian gods to deal with whatever that magic seed thing was in Picnic Panic? That would certainly be a "mysterious and wacky" story to tell. However it all shakes out, we're certainly looking forward to playing that Sea of Stars DLC — especially if it finds its way to PS Plus Extra at launch! In our opinion, Sea of Stars is one of the best indie games on PS5, so if you still haven't checked it out, make sure to play it before the DLC launches.
