Before players have even got a reason to jump back into collecting those Fallout 4 trophies en masse, our PS5 top 40 chart showing that the new Fallout content has incentivized wasteland antics. Our 3.1 million sample of PSN accounts shows that even if the latest single-player entry couldn't make it to the best RPG games, Fallout continues to be a huge IP.

Fallout 4 has an 181.3% in PS5 and PS4 player count in one week

Starting with the highest-ranked of the two Fallout games that have been boosted by the new TV show on Amazon Prime Video, we have Fallout 4. The single-player PS4 game takes the cake, having risen 51 places in the top 200 games on PlayStation. That took it from 76th place (what are the odds?) to 25th place with a player count increase of 181.3%. in PS5 and PS4 player count in one week
It's worth noting that Fallout 4 PS5 update will be launching for free on April 25, 2024, so there is another reason why players might be flocking back to the game this week. Seriously, though, this cross-media stuff makes sense! If you time free content alongside your new TV show or film about the game, you are going to have plenty of players jumping back in on a big scale.

Arguably more interesting the more interesting result for Bethesda, its live-service multiplayer PS4 game Fallout 76 had a 96.5% increase in player count this week alongside Fallout 4. That brought it from 67th place right up to 32nd place. No doubt this was aided by the recent launch of Fallout 76: Atlantic City - America's Playground, with this latest expansion arriving just last month.

Fallout 76's disastrous launch was followed by several patches, expansions, and a PS Plus release in January 2023 to try and salvage the game. That was partially successful as it became one of the top games of 2023 according to our sample. However, its new 2024 boost is a good (potentially last) opportunity for Fallout 76 to retain as many players as possible. Let's see how well it does over the coming weeks.
A few other things to look at the week: Rise of the Ronin's one-place increase to 23rd place proves that it might have a bit of staying power over the next few weeks. A slip from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth from sixth to eighth isn't a massive deal, single-player games get finished and a lot of players will be finishing that latest entry around now. MLB The Show 24 also debuted at 41st, just missing out on the top 40 PS5 games chart.

For all the other games we haven't talked about, check out the PS5 Top 40 Chart for the week ending Sunday, April 15, 2024.

Chart compiled using gameplay data from over 3.2 million active PlayStation accounts (not just TrueTrophies accounts). Chart information is copyright GameInsights. Regarding this data:
  • When an account opens a game, this is registered as a game being played. Accounts can only register a game once per week.
  • Our data is good for suggesting general trends — we represent this using percentages, not numbers.
