Several PlayStation Studios have already released an upgrade patch for some of the biggest PS5 games around to prepare them for the launch of Sony's upcoming PS5 Pro. That means you can pre-load a bunch of PS5 Pro upgrades for PlayStation Studios games this week if you own a copy of games like The Last of Us Part II Remastered or Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

Six Sony-published PS5 games just launched PS5 Pro updates

While a ton of PS5 Pro games have already announced support for Sony's upcoming console launch on Thursday, November 7, 2024, PS5 players can already prepare some of their games to take advantage of the new system's features. So far, six Sony-published games have already released their PS5 Pro upgrades, four of which come from major PlayStation Studios.
Leading the charge on PlayStation Studios' PS5 Pro support is Naughty Dog, who was the first to release upgrade patches for The Last of Us Part I and The Last of Us Part II Remastered. Both games will now feature support for the PS5 Pro's "PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution" (PSSR) feature with the addition of a new "Pro" display mode. This mode renders games at 1440p, then upscales them to 4K while targeting a performance of 60 frames per second (fps).

In short, both The Last of Us games on PS5 could only previously run in 4K at 30fps — this new mode should boost that performance to 60fps on PS5 Pro. Also, both of the previous display modes (Performance mode and Fidelity mode) have been updated to run even smoother on PS5 Pro, and they'll even run at higher framerates than before if you have a compatible display.
PlayStation Studios' Insomniac Games also managed to get ahead of the PS5 Pro's launch date with two upgrade patches for its biggest PS5 games so far: Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart and Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

Similar to Naughty Dog's efforts, both titles from Insomniac Games introduce a new display mode that takes advantage of the PS5 Pro's PSSR feature. For both Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart and Marvel's Spider-Man 2, that mode is called "Performance Pro," which targets 60fps, 4K output, and introduces a host of ray-tracing features to provide better reflections on windows and water.

However, Insomniac Games also goes one step beyond by introducing a "Fidelity Pro" mode to both games. This mode is more experimental, targeting 30 fps while bathing both games in an array of new ray-tracing features that further improve reflection quality and ambient occlusion (a lighting mode that aims to capture how light interacts and reflects from objects more naturally).

All of these features can be toggled individually while using Fidelity Pro mode, allowing players to pare back some features in lieu of a slightly boosted performance. Marvel's Spider-Man 2's Fidelity Pro mode also comes with a unique toggle for Ray-Traced Key Light Shadows, which aims to make shadows from sunlight appear more naturalistic on PS5 Pro.
As well as the above PlayStation Studios support, two 2024 Sony-published PS5 games have already released PS5 Pro upgrade patches. Both Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade have introduced new features to improve the experience for players who pick up Sony's next console.

Stellar Blade has added two new display modes to take advantage of the PS5 Pro's launch. "Pro" mode will take advantage of the PSSR feature, targeting 60fps at an upscaled 4K output. Meanwhile, "Pro Max" will aim to improve the frame rate of the standard Resolution Mode in Stellar Blade. The game also added a "High Frame Rate" mode for PS5 players who own 120 Hz-compatible displays.

Meanwhile, Rise of the Ronin plays things a little safer by simply improving the visual fidelity and performance of its standard "Prioritize FPS" and "Prioritize Graphics" modes using PS5 Pro. Seeing as this game looks and runs a little choppy on the standard PS5 regardless of its settings, this feels like the right move for developer Team Ninja to focus on delivering a more stable experience to PS5 Pro owners.
That's all the PS5 Pro upgrade patches released by Sony so far, although we already know that more PlayStation Studios games will be adding compatibility over the next few weeks. Big titles like God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, and the Until Dawn remake will also support PS5 Pro in the near future, if not prior to the console's launch.

So, if you pick up Sony's pricier PS5 upgrade, that means you'll get to experience some of the best PS5 games again with fresh eyes. Plus, that's just the games published by Sony — personally, I'm eager to see how Final Fantasy VII Rebirth looks on the new console! Let us know in the comments below if you'll be checking out any of the PlayStation Studios games on PS5 Pro.
