Sony has surprised fans of PS1 games and PS Plus Premium subscribers by adding three PS1 platinum trophies in June 2024 to three classic titles that have been available on the PS Store for quite a while now. You will now be able to find Toy Story 2, Alone in the Dark The New Nightmare, or Oddworld Abe's Exoddus on our PS1 games list now that all three have platinum trophies that you can unlock!

PS1 games get retroactive platinum trophies in June 2024

Since PS Plus Premium launched in 2022, PS5 and PS4 players have been receiving a steady trickle of classic PS1 games to play on the PS Store each month. While the games all play exactly as you remember them, there has been one issue bugging PS1 fans since the start: only first-party PS1 games published by Sony have been receiving trophy support.

However, as of Tuesday, June 11, 2024, everything has changed! For the first time since Sony's PS1 game publishing initiative started, we've got three third-party PS1 platinum trophy lists for Disney Pixar's Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue, Oddworld Abe's Exoddus, and Alone in the Dark The New Nightmare. If you've purchased any of these games, you should receive a free update that lets you play any of these three games again for a platinum trophy.

Let's check out each of these new PS1 trophy lists in more depth below.

Disney Pixar Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue!

This PS1 trophy list feels like a dream come true — the brilliant Toy Story 2 PS1 game now has a platinum trophy on PS5 and PS4. If Sony had held a vote to decide which PS1 games deserved a platinum trophy the most, this game would have easily been in my top three picks. It's still a super fun platformer by today's standards and promises to be a blast to collect trophies in.

If you're a fan of PS Plus easy platinums, this is also the game you'll want to check out. It's not a particularly long or hard PS1 game, and you'll earn most of those new trophies by simply playing the game and taking part in all the little side activities on offer. Honestly, I can't wait to finish writing this — I'm booting this one up immediately just to bask in the nostalgia.

Oddworld Abe's Exoddus

While you might prefer to check out this game's glossy remake Oddworld Soulstorm, some of us just like our classic PS1 games the way they were. For those retro PlayStation fans, you'll be pleased to hear then that the ambitious Oddworld Abe's Exoddus — the sequel to Oddworld Abe's Oddysee — now has a PS1 platinum trophy for you to earn.

This will likely prove the hardest of the three June 2024 PS1 platinum trophies to earn, simply because Abe's Exoddus is a pretty tricky game. Luckily, you can use save states and rewinds to undo any errors you make along the way, but you'll still want a guide handy to make sure you don't miss the chance to save all 150 Mudokons along the way. There are a few missables in this one too, so tread carefully!

Alone in the Dark The New Nightmare

While not a particularly difficult PS1 game, Alone in the Dark The New Nightmare has much the same problem as many classic Resident Evil trophy lists have: you have to beat the game multiple times to get the platinum. That's because this game features two playable characters, Carnby and Aline, and you'll need to beat the game at least one time playing as each.

You'll also need to hunt down all the game's weapons, find all of the unique documents, and investigate everything in sight to make sure you take home this PS1 platinum trophy. That means you'll need to really invest yourself in Alone in the Dark The New Nightmare if you want that platinum! Still, it's a pretty solid take on the survival horror genre — particularly for its day — so I'm sure plenty of classic PlayStation fans are looking forward to this one.

Now that all three of these PS1 games have platinum trophies, we can consider them as contenders for our best PS Plus Premium games list! You know Toy Story 2 deserves a spot on that list. Are you excited to earn trophies in any of the above classic PS1 games? Let us know in the comments below!
