PS Plus is giving away rare PS5 avatars for PlayStation’s 30th

These PS Plus PS5 avatars are looking like they will be pretty rare. So, if you want to jazz up your profile with them you best make sure you grab them.

PlayStation is celebrating its 30th anniversary, which is a pretty epic milestone. To give back to the players for all their support Sony is creating a multitude of different events, merch, and prizes that players can claim, with even more to come in the future. Kicking things off, you'll soon be able to bag some PS Plus PS5 avatars that will likely be pretty rare. Thankfully, you can jump into some of the best PS5 games around to try and claim them.

PlayStation 30th Anniversary avatars will require PS Plus to unlock

As revealed through the PlayStation Blog, there are two avatars you can earn through PS Plus this month and both of them celebrate PlayStation's 30th anniversary with either the PS1 era colors or the PS5 era colors which are just black and white. To add these PS5 avatars to your collection you will need to enter an esports tournament in specific games between Saturday, September 21, and Sunday, September 22, 2024.

The games that will host these esports tournaments include NBA 2K24, NBA 2K25, Madden NFL 24, MLB The Show 24, EA UFC 5, Tekken 8, and Guilty Gear Strive. If you own any of these games and qualify, you will be able to compete and win the special 30th anniversary-themed avatars, as well as other game-specific prizes. Simply entering and competing in an esports tournament will reward you with both avatars.

You can sign up for these esports tournaments via the Game Hub tab on any of the aforementioned games or through the in-game PlayStation Tournaments tab that you can find on a games menu screen (if they have one).

Now, those of you worried about not having any of the above games to play are in luck. MLB The Show 24 is currently part of the PS Plus Essential lineup of September 2024, which means you can add it to your collection as long as you have at least an Essential subscription. This shouldn't be an issue for those of you wanting to grab these avatars as you will need a PS Plus subscription regardless to compete in the esports tournaments.

The PS Plus PS5 avatars you can earn

I'm not a big fan of esports tournaments, I am much more of a single-player kind of guy. However, I do love Tekken, and seeing as I could swipe these nifty little avatars up through Tekken 8 is definitely quite appealing. It would also give me a reason to check out the Game Hub tab that I've barely used. Also, it would be awesome to just add these avatars to the collection, they look pretty sweet!
