Spread the love with some PS Plus games for couples on PS5

Drawing upon the collective experiences of my own life and a few suggestions from the TrueTrophies writing team, I've pooled together this list of the top five recommended games for couples to play on PS Plus. I've added a few spicy honorable mentions a little further down for PS5 and PS4-owning couples who would rather have only one player do all the hard work. More on that later.

Unless otherwise noted, all games below are available to download with a PS Plus Extra subscription. Plus, if you're not the romantic type, check out some of the best 2 player games on PS5 for some Pal-entines Day fun. Otherwise, read on for some of the best games for couples to play on PS Plus. 1. Untitled Goose Game

  • You can find Untitled Goose Game trophies here
  • Online/Couch co-op? Couch
  • Ideal for: Non-gamer partners
  • Pairs well with: A novelty flavored beer
It's time to embrace goofiness. Untitled Goose Game is as easy as it is fun, and doesn't require any prior gaming experience to enjoy. If you're always in your partner's ear about playing something together but you sense they might be a little intimidated by those hack-and-slash roguelikes you play, why not start here instead? It's cheeky, cute, and is guaranteed to have you both giggling (or honking) throughout.

2. Terraria

  • You can find Terraria trophies here
  • Online/Couch co-op? Both Couch and Online
  • Ideal for: Long-distance lovers
  • Pairs well with: A cup of hot cocoa
If you and your beloved are separated by a cruel expanse of geography, a long, slow evening of Terraria will make for a perfect staying-in date. As long as you both have the game (and PS Plus Extra), you can get yourself matching drinks and maybe cook something over a video call, then settle in for a constructive evening building your dream compound and fending off enemies together.

The great thing about Terraria is that you can make it as chill or as complex as you like. Spend your time setting up a cute little homestead, or venture off as partners in arms, striking fear into any slimes that dare try to come between you and your love.

3. Haven

  • You can find Haven trophies here
  • Online/Couch co-op? Couch
  • Ideal for: Old-school romantics
  • Pairs well with: A bold glass of red
What's better than a romantic movie on Valentine's Day? That's not a setup for a joke, the answer is simply: a romantic game. Haven is the perfect game if you're going steady and want to experience a game that asks: does love conquer all?

It's an RPG adventure about a couple in an intimate relationship, faced with a new and unknown world after sacrificing everything to be together. You can choose the gender of the two characters to more accurately reflect your own relationship, and enjoy making choices, crafting, and trying to survive together. It's an immersive and beautiful game, requiring the pair of you to be truly in-synch.

4. Rayman Legends

  • You can find Rayman Legends trophies here
  • Online/Couch co-op? Couch
  • Ideal for: Those with unresolved issues
  • Pairs well with: Something fizzy
No judgment from me here, but if the pair of you have some unresolved issues to work out, or maybe need to let off some steam, Rayman Legends might be the way to go. It's not a story you have to pay much attention to, just bright and eye-catching graphics with some lovable characters who have to platform their way to saving the Glade of Dreams. It's easy to learn, complements two-player perfectly, and lets you slap each other silly if you are so inclined. Like I said, no judgment.

5. Moving Out 2

  • You can find Moving Out 2 trophies here
  • Online/Couch co-op? Couch
  • Ideal for: A first date icebreaker
  • Pairs well with: A pick-n-mix bag of sweets
Maybe this is a first date and you guys don't know each other very well. That's okay, we even have a game for you. Moving Out 2 is the sort of game that refuses to sit on the ice and not break it.

Sure, you may be shy and coy while you're setting up the game, and maybe even for a few moments after it starts. A little later, if you aren't yelling directions and laughing yourself to the point of tears by the second round, I'll eat a whole bouquet of roses. It's frantic and ridiculous, and forces you to work together as a team, so eliminates the possibility of competitiveness entirely.

Single-player games for couples

Something a bit more personal now, but my partner and I have a pretty even split between video/board game dates vs. dates where we go out into the world and do human things. The former certainly doesn't feel any less fun than the latter, especially when you plan things like nice snacks, fancy drinks, and get a big ol' blanket over the pair of you.

There's a lot to love about a staying-in date, even when the game isn't designed for two players. If none of the above games catch your eye, all it takes is a bit of creativity to turn a single-player game into a communal night of fun.

A few examples: We played Alien Isolation, complete with as many alien-like snacks as we could find (flying saucer sweets, Space Raider crisps, jelly worms, some suspicious freeze-dried "astronaut food") and swapped the controller every time one of us was (inevitably) caught by the Xenomorph.
Games with plenty of dialogue choices also work really well, we managed both Disco Elysium and Chicken Police: Paint it RED (you can play the original Chicken Police on PS Plus Extra) by making decisions jointly and laughing (or crying) at the outcome. My point is, anything can be a date if you're creative enough, and dating a gamer can be one of life's joys.

Let us know which games you'd play with your significant other (or even just a friend) in the comments below – the most bizarre choice wins nothing, but you'll make us laugh! Check out some more options in our list of the best PS5 multiplayer games.

Miri's hobbies outside of gaming inform everything about their on-screen preferences: Lots of reading, irritatingly tough puzzles, and anything vaguely historical. As such, they're always on the lookout for another Disco Elysium-type read-a-thon, a Myst-like island to get lost in, or an ancient time capsule like The Forgotten City. Other than that, if anything is being described as "weird and unsettling", it's either Miri, or their new favorite indie game.
