However, the sequel is still available to play on the service.Sean Lawson Published 03 Sep 2024 FollowtopicsThe Evil WithinBethesda SoftworksPlayStation PlusSean Lawson We hope you weren't planning to earn The Evil Within trophies through PS Plus as you'll find yourself out of luck. That's right, PS Plus Extra has lost The Evil Within without so much as a word from Sony. While we always try to keep our PS Plus leaving games guide as up-to-date as possible, situations like this are out of our control. The Evil Within has quietly been removed from PS Plus Extra by SonyAs uncovered by users over on PSNProfiles, PS4 horror venture The Evil Within has been removed from the subscription service. The Evil Within left PS Plus Extra on Friday, August 30, 2024, and was the only game to leave the service on that date. It's unclear as to why the game's leaving wasn't announced by Sony, or why the game wasn't removed at the same time as all the other leaving games for August 2024 like Destroy All Humans and Sea of Stars. However, it's become somewhat typical to expect strange situations like this to occur with Sony. Honestly, I doubt we will ever get an explanation as to why The Evil Within has been removed so abruptly. In the forum, users are speculating over the possibility that a PS5 version of The Evil Within could be in the works and that is why Sony decided to remove the game so quietly. However, with Microsoft owning Bethesda, and with the game being tangled up in the whole Tango Gamework debacle, I wouldn't hold my breath on this becoming a reality. We may have lost the ability to play the first The Evil Within game on PS Plus, but we can still play The Evil Within 2 through our Extra subscription. While both games are fantastic, The Evil Within 2 is the one I prefer. I find that the game has better exploration, an array of creepy missions, and is a stronger overall experience.Regardless of which title you prefer the fact that we have lost one of them without any warning is a real shame, especially when both games are such stellar titles in Bethesda's catalog. Hopefully, we won't have any more nasty surprises like this in the coming weeks — it would be nice if Sony could actually announce every game that is set to leave the service. What do you make of this?
