PlayStation State of Play September 2024 — 5 big predictions for PS5 Sony has another event to showcase the future of PS5, so we've sat down and laid out our five PlayStation State of Play September 2024 predictions!Kes Eylers-Stephenson Published 24 Sep 2024 FollowtopicsAnnouncementIndustry NewsPlayStation 5Kes Eylers-Stephenson With Sony hosting another big event set to outline the future and hopefully give us a taste of some upcoming PS5 games, the TrueTrophies team has sat down to deliver you five PlayStation State of Play September 2024 predictions. Will Sony finally give us big PS5 games in the new State of Play?As per PlayStation Blog, Sony announces its new State of Play event for September 2024. The event is on Wednesday, September 24, 2024, at 3pm PT / 6pm ET / 11pm GMT or on Thursday, September 25, 2024 at 12am CEST / 7am JST.You can watch it below if you bookmark this page. The 30-minute show has over 20 upcoming PS5 and PS VR2 games, making it a relatively big event. However, 'State of Play' events have often felt like contractual marketing agreements of late so keep those expectations in check. In any case, Staff Writers Lee, Sean, and I (Editor Kes) are making five predictions below to help set standards for Sony. Here's our take on Sony's State of Play for September 2024.Kes' Prediction — Death Stranding 2 gets another chance to shineYou'll eventually be able to collect the Death Stranding 2 On the Beach trophiesCurrent release window: 2025What sacrifice would I make to see it happen? A few Monster Energy cans burned on a mountain (and subsequently tidied away)I keep thinking we're going to see more of Death Stranding 2 On The Beach at every major event. Instead, Sam Porter Bridges' upcoming PS5 adventure sneaks on by like we are the ghosts of an old world. Well, last year the game was properly revealed at The Game Awards in 2023, but had a spectacular showing at the start of the year State of Play.Well, I'm hoping we have a bit of a bookend here with DS2 — a trailer of Kojima-level weirdness that helps take us through to 2025 when we'll play the game. It just looks truly mad. From the guitar guy to whatever is going on with Fragile, I'm hooked. The first game was one of the best PS5 open-world games ever, so give me this, too!Lee's Prediction — Astro Bot DLC shadow drops during State of PlayYou can find those Astro Bot trophies hereCurrent release window: Late 2024What sacrifice would I make to see it happen? If the DLC has Final Fantasy characters, I'd sacrifice a beloved party member by way of a 10-foot-long katanaWe already know that we're due some Astro Bot DLC updates shortly — why not make the future today? The first set of updates coming to Astro Bot are supposedly Speed Run levels, similar to the challenges added to Astro's Playroom in a post-release DLC update.Launching the Astro Bot speed run levels during the State of Play showcase would be a delightful surprise that also gives us another reason to keep playing this PS5 platformer. The game's credits suggest we'll get new special bots themed around Rayman and Croc in a future update, although I'm holding out on a secret Astro Bot Final Fantasy crossover.Sean's Prediction — No live service games to be shownIf you want to, you can see those expired Concord trophies — exciting!Current release window: Who knowsWhat sacrifice would I make to see it happen? Concord, againConcord has potentially been one of the biggest disasters in Sony's history. The live-service game is rumored to have cost Sony a whopping $400 million to make and took precedence over many other titles like The Last of Us Factions. This push on live-service titles has always been a bit of an issue for me. The only way a live-service game can succeed in this climate is if it has a truly unique selling point. I don't think any of the competing titles that Sony is working on right now have one.So, I think Sony will play it smart and not show us any of the upcoming live-service titles that are still in the works (Marathon and Fairgames) during this State of Play. With how much money Concord lost, these next few games need to knock it out of the park and impress the masses, so Sony should sit on its laurels and work on a new plan.Kes' Prediction — Horizon Zero Dawn leads the PS5 remastersThere will be a separate list of Horizon Zero Dawn trophiesCurrent release window: estimated 2025What sacrifice would I make to see it happen? No sacrifices, Sony has to pay me insteadWe've got a double billing of PS5 remasters it seems, led by Horizon Zero Dawn's PS5 remaster. Guerrilla Games' open-world game is a PS5 great, there is no doubt, However, does it need a remaster? Probably not. I'm not actually against getting a fresh port of the game at all, but I just want to see new things at the State of Play.Supposedly, a Days Gone PS5 remaster is also coming. Why? God knows, the game wasn't released that long ago and it already has a 60fps patch on PS5. Again, it's an optional extra for people who want to try one of the most underrated PS4 games — but with Bloodborne just sitting there untouched it seems unessential.Lee's Prediction — Marvel's Wolverine makes an early appearanceWhen available, you can find those Marvel's Wolverine trophies hereCurrent release window: TBA 2026What sacrifice would I make to see it happen? My anguished memories of a peaceful lifeWhile the Insomniac Games hack in late 2023 suggested we'll not see much of Marvel's Wolverine until 2026, it's still been three years since the last time we got a good (Sony-approved) look at the game. That's why I think we could see Logan show up in force at this year's show, just to remind us that he's on the way.It would be a fairly good time to remind audiences, given the success of Deadpool & Wolverine in cinemas earlier this year. Plus, you never know — it's always possible development is going a little smoother than expected. I'm not saying Marvel's Wolverine is likely to drop in 2025, but Insomniac Games have performed miracles before. We'll have a better idea after the State of Play, that's for sure.So those are our State of Play predictions. What do you think? Will any of the games at this showcase make it to the best PS5 games list?
