Update: As of Tuesday, May 21, 2024, the full PlayStation Plus May 2024 lineup has become available for all Extra and Premium subscribers. While the rollout times may vary in different regions, you should be able to hop on your horse and begin a ride across the plain in Red Dead Redemption 2 right now!
Sony has officially announced the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium May 2024 games lineup for PS5 and PS4. With Red Dead Redemption 2 headlining 12 new games (and a DLC pack), there is no doubt that we are about to have a change at the top of the best PS Plus games!

PS Plus Extra and Premium games lineup for May 2024

  • The PS Plus Extra and Premium games will be available on Tuesday, May 21, 2024
  • PS Plus Extra will get Red Dead Redemption 2 in May 2024
  • Bizarrely, PS Plus Extra will add an expansion pack for The Sims 4
So, we are getting 12 PS5 and PS4 games in the latest lineup for PS Plus Extra and Premium, all of which will be available on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. Nine of these games are for Extra, including the phenomenal Red Dead Redemption 2 and the re-addition of Watch Dogs.
For PS Plus Premium, we are getting three games including Worms Pinball. While it may not be another of the classic Worms titles we have come to know and love, it should still provide us all with a lot of laughs. On top of that, we can keep our fingers crossed that we may even get a platinum trophy to collect as well. However, the original Worms did come to the service without any trophies. So, don't hold your breath.

Perhaps the oddest inclusion is DLC for The Sims 4. While the PS4 game is now free to download from the PS Store, it's still the first time PS Plus Extra has ever simply offered DLC on the platform as one of its new additions. Plus, given the sheer boatload of DLC out there for The Sims 4, it feels a little miserly of EA to bring just one slice to Sony's subscription scheme.

Here are all the PS Plus Extra and Premium games, followed by three PS Plus highlights for May 2024.

PS Plus Highlight: Red Dead Redemption 2

  • Tier: PS Plus Extra
  • Platform(s): PS4
It would be pretty silly of us to choose another game over this absolute classic from Rockstar. I mean, did you really expect us to pick Crime Boss Rockay City over this masterpiece? Red Dead Redemption 2 is filled with all of the over-the-top carnage and wild side quests that you come to expect from any Rockstar game.

Look, if you haven't experienced the Red Dead Redemption series yet, then the second game is a fantastic place to start. The game will keep you invested for hundreds of hours — quite literally — and has a solid platinum trophy to earn. I would just advise you to be careful of those missable trophies and you should be good to go riding around this wickedly devious Wild West landscape.

PS Plus Highlight: Watch Dogs

  • Tier: PS Plus Extra via Ubisoft Plus Classics
  • Platform(s): PS4
It's not super exciting as an announcement, I suppose, given that PS Plus Extra lost Watch Dogs in September 2023 — it seems hacker Aiden Pierce is stalking back to PS Plus just seven months later. Listen, I'm a real believer in this first Watch Dogs game. I think it has the right dark tone and is so gratuitously serious that it sells the story. I think it's worth your time, so give Watch Dogs a go if you have the time!

PS Plus Lowlight: The Settlers New Allies

  • Tier: PS Plus Extra via Ubisoft Plus Classics
  • Platform(s): PS4
The Settlers New Allies is a real-time strategy game that effectively reboots the series after The Settlers 7 was released back in 2010 on PC. You'd be forgiven for thinking that collecting The Settlers New Allies trophies would give you a lovely opportunity to revisit a classic series on PS Plus. Well, the strategy community has a strong word to say about that — they viscerally, loudly, and passionately hate it.

For many, the game's amazing graphics sugar-coat an otherwise simplified and stupefied strategy game. While The Settlers New Allies should have developed more complex simulations of economic, social, and city-building dynamics and mechanics in the 13 years since the last release, it somehow wound up making everything boring instead. Listen, it's worth a try — The Settlers isn't an awful game, it just follows a trend of 'AAA' strategy games getting dumber.

No contenders for the best PS Plus Premium games this month! But, what do you think of Ubisoft's offerings for PS Plus in May 2024 and Anno 1800 in June 2024? Let us know your thoughts in the comments down below, TrueTrophies community!
