The PlayStation Plus December 2024 games for the Essential tier of Sony's subscription are out now! This month, we're getting a co-op multiplayer PS5 gem, a challenging strategy game in the Alien franchise, and the PlayStation equivalent of Pokémon. Could one of these PS5 and PS4 games join the best PS Plus games list soon?

It Takes Two leads the PS Plus Essential games for December 2024

  • PS Plus Essential has added three PS5 and PS4 games in December 2024
  • PS Plus December 2024's lineup has been released as of Tuesday, December 3, 2024
  • 2-player PS5 game It Takes Two leads this month's new games!
Your PS Plus Essential monthly games lineup have been announced on the PlayStation Blog and are now available to download on PS5 and PS4 on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. As per usual, subscribers will be able to download and continue playing these games so long as they claim them at some point during the month they're available.

That means the three games leaving PS Plus from last month's lineup are now gone — hopefully you snapped them up! Meanwhile, you can jump in and start playing the immensely great It Takes Two and two other delightful surprises listed below. Here are the three PS Plus Essential monthly games for December 2024!

It Takes Two

One of the best PS5 multiplayer games around, It Takes Two is a two-player only platformer where you play as struggling couple May and Cody. Turned into miniature dolls by a magical relationship advice book, you and a partner will have to work together to survive vacuum cleaners, insect armies, and an array of household hazard if you want to repair your relationship and regain your human forms.

It Takes Two was already on PS Plus Extra, having only left in January 2024, so it's fair that some subscribers might be a little disappointed by the game's inclusion here. Still, it's one of my favorite PS5 games to date, it's an absolute blast to play with a friend, and I say the more players who get their hands on this Game of the Year winner, the better.

Aliens Dark Descent

If you love the Alien franchise but you're a little too much of a coward to play the great Alien Isolation (I'm not judging, I've yet to make it through the whole thing), then you'll absolutely want to check out Aliens Dark Descent. Rather than put you in the position of having to see a Xenomorph impale you in first-person, this real-time strategy game lets you take a backseat and command troops to fight the Aliens for you.

While it's not exactly one of the most innovative games in the genre, it's a great gateway into the real-time strategy genre for non-fans who couldn't quite get into X-COM. It's got a pretty tough platinum trophy too, but if you find yourself getting really into Aliens Dark Descent, you'll find the trophy hunting experience here tremendously rewarding.

Temtem

Have you ever found yourself wondering aloud why on earth the Pokémon franchise doesn't already have some sort of big MMO you can play online with your friends? Well, the developers of Temtem had that exact thought, and instead of waiting around for Game Freak to get it together, they jumped right ahead and made that Pokémon MMO themselves.

With a strong community of ardent fans, Temtem takes the monster-catching and turn-based battles of the Pokémon series and brings them online in a big explorable world. It's a fascinating PS5 online game — the closest to getting Pokémon on PlayStation — however, with developer Crema already announcing the game would no longer receive new content, I wouldn't expect this PS5 platinum trophy to stick around forever.

Our PS Plus Predictions for December 2024 were:
  • Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League
  • Prince of Persia The Lost Crown
  • Steamworld Build
It Takes Two is hands-down one of the best 2 player PS5 games available on the console, so you really must check it out if you haven't already. What do you make of December 2024's PS Plus monthly games lineup? Let us know down in the comments!
