15. Untitled Goose Game

It's hard to imagine a kid who's not going to love Untitled Goose Game. The premise is perfectly simple: you're a menacing little goose whose sole purpose in life is to wreak havoc upon a small village of unsuspecting folk.

It's the perfect game for kids with a certain sense of humor who just love causing chaos! Maybe help them out with progress by playing in 2 player mode alongside them?

14. Cat Quest 3

  • You can find Cat Quest 3 trophies here
  • Genre: Action RPG
  • Multiplayer?: Yes; Local (up to 2 players)
  • Is it on PS Plus? No (but Cat Quest and Cat Quest 2 are on PS Plus Extra!)
What could be better for a young gamer than an adventure where you play as a pirate cat and travel the Purribean in search of treasure and answers to life's great mysteries? That's exactly what you'll be getting up to in Cat Quest 3, the latest entry in this low-key excellent action RPG series.

While this PS5 and PS4 game is a little bit more combat-heavy than other games on this list, it still feels perfectly accessible for kids thanks to its easy mode difficulty and handy 2-player mode. Dig up treasure, unlock new swords and blunderbusses, and take down bad guys like Meowtalika — what's not to love?

13. Minecraft Dungeons

  • You can find Minecraft Dungeons trophies here
  • Genre: Dungeon Crawler
  • Multiplayer?: Yes; Local and Online (up to 4 players)
  • Is it on PS Plus? No
While the real Minecraft certainly is an excellent game for older kids, Minecraft Dungeons is just a little bit more accessible for kids of all ages.

It's a fun dungeon crawler that can be played with up to four players, making it the perfect game for keeping a whole room of kids busy. Controls are simple, the aesthetic is very much Minecraft, and it's just a solid action game to boot.

12. My Friend Peppa Pig

Now, the drawbacks of this one should abundantly clear to most adults looking to buy PS5 games for kids. Peppa Pig is reassuringly a character for very young kids, and as you might expect, her PS5 game My Friend Peppa Pig is also for very young kids.

The game plays out like the TV show with very little in the way of challenge. Just create your custom character, join Peppa as she tours the world, and have a relaxing time learning about cultures and people.

11. Penny's Big Breakaway

Penny's Big Breakaway might be a little bit harder than other games on this list, but when it comes to family-friendly vibes, you won't find a game more welcoming to kids than Penny's Big Breakaway.

It takes the fun movement from games like Super Mario Odyssey and brings that style over to the PS5. It's a blast, and even when it gets tough, the lack of a game over system stops kids from getting too frustrated.

10. SpongeBob SquarePants The Cosmic Shake

This game leans into the enduring popularity of SpongeBob SquarePants with a ton of authentic cutscenes and jokes that feel like they're straight from the TV show.

As a platformer, there's a lot of creativity on display here — it feels exactly like the long-lost sequel to a beloved PS2 kids game that it actually is. Some later levels might prove a bit tricky, but kids are sure to love this PS5 and PS4 game regardless.

9. Astro’s Playroom

  • You can find Astro’s Playroom trophies here
  • Genre: Platformer
  • Multiplayer?: No
  • Is it on PS Plus? No (but it's pre-installed on PS5 for free)
Astro’s Playroom is a great introduction to your PS5 and comes free with the console. It also happens to be a great introduction to 3D platforming. With plenty of level diversity, children will be amazed by the colors popping from the screen and can get caught up in the creativity of it all.

The gimmicks are all charming, there's no real failure state, and it's packed full of delightful little jokes and details. Can't recommend it enough.

8. Tearaway Unfolded

From the creative masterminds behind the LittleBigPlanet series comes Tearaway Unfolded — a delightful little platformer where you play as a sentient letter on an adventure to deliver yourself.

You'll explore a world created from craft materials with a few fun gimmicks that feels impossible to replicate without a PS5 or PS4 controller. It's simply platforming that makes for a great first single-player game experience.

7. Sonic Colors Ultimate

One of the best Sonic games around, Sonic Colors has a hilarious Saturday morning cartoon vibe that feels perfectly tuned to keep kids laughing. The action is fast but never frustrating and the Ultimate version also lets Tails help kids who get stuck in a level, which is super handy!

6. Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga

The great thing about any of the Lego games is that they're fairly forgiving and they're also pretty easy. It's a formula that holds true over the entire range of Lego franchise tie-ins, but Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga is definitely the best of these games.

It's got the most fun locales, the greatest array of characters to play as, and the best gameplay in the series. Plus, it's great for two players!

5. Tchia

  • You can find Tchia trophies here
  • Genre: Adventure
  • Multiplayer?: No
  • Is it on PS Plus? No
Tchia is the perfect kid's game to sit down and relax with. Nothing in the game is particularly stressful and exploring this world and its New Caledonia-inspired culture is a delight.

The Tchia trophies are also incredibly lax, as the main requirement is just to collect everything that you possibly can. It truly is a breathtaking world to sail around in and comes highly recommended to kids.

4. Fall Guys

  • You can find Fall Guys trophies here
  • Genre: Platformer
  • Multiplayer?: Yes; Online (requires PS Plus subscription)
  • Is it on PS Plus? No (but it's free to play)
Fall Guys is a game about big dumb obstacle courses with one simple objective: don't fall down. While the chances of winning a game are very slim, the fun is just trying to survive each round, and every kid I've introduced Fall Guys too has absolutely loved it. Plus, it's free to play — can't beat that price for a PS5 game.

3. Spyro Reignited Trilogy

  • You can find Spyro The Dragon trophies here (one of three platinum trophies in this collection)
  • Genre: Action Adventure
  • Multiplayer?: No
  • Is it on PS Plus? No
An absolute gem from the PS1 era, I feel like this is the series of games I introduce to the kids in my life more than any other. For younger kids, Spyro is a relaxing set of colorful PS5 adventures that leisurely introduces you to the challenges of 3D platforming.

For older kids, it can be demanding to see and do everything available in the game. It's the best mix for everyone involved and comes highly recommended.

2. Astro Bot

One of the best games on PS5 is also a perfect fit for any kids looking for an amazing adventure on their PlayStation! Astro Bot is the sequel to Astro's Playroom, and it expands massively on the variety worlds you can visit while ramping up the new power-ups and number of secrets you can find.

Thanks to a generous checkpointing system, the game isn't punishing even when it gets a little tougher near the end. It's also the closest thing the PS5 has to its very own Super Mario game, so if you want to treat your kid to a game that exudes fun and joy, you've got to introduce them to Astro Bot.

1. Sackboy A Big Adventure

Sackboy A Big Adventure can get a little tougher by the end, but its bright, inventive levels full of stuff to do will certainly keep your kids busy playing the PS5.

Failure can be fun in this game too, and a lot of the harder levels are optional (like the Knight Challenges). Plus, the big selling point here is that the entire game can be played with up to four players. That gives Sackboy A Big Adventure the edge here — it's not just kid-friendly, but also inclusive!

That's what makes Sackboy's latest game the best PS5 kids game so far!
