In the most popular PS5 games this week, we're seeing old favorites return to the fray as players tuck up in warm blankets. This top 40 list of PS5 and PS4 titles tracks the most popular games of the week — not just the best PS5 games — using 3.2 million unique PSN accounts.

Ghost of Tsushima and Hogwarts Legacy keep winter spirits high

The top of the chart is nothing special at the moment, though it is worth noting two things. the first is that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has kept its fourth place as it continues to sell well and players keep swinging through New York. With all of those big games around him, that's no easy feat. Secondly, I do think it's worth noting that RB6 Siege and Rocket League have climbed two places as Apex Legends have dropped two. That is a big change of the guard for live-service games going into the holiday season.
What's amazing about this week though is just how many 'older' single-player PS5 favourites have jumped into the chart. Hogwarts Legacy is up four places to 24th, for example. It's a massive 2023 game and it is recent in the grand scheme of things, but having single-player games return six months later in a chart full of live-service and online games shows the impact that the Wizarding World title has had.

But it isn't just Hogwarts Legacy, though. As the winter sets in, it's clear that players are going back to trusted experiences. We have God of War Ragnarok in 26th (up three), Final Fantasy XVI in 30th (up two), and perhaps most notably Ghost of Tsushima in 32nd (up four). It's about 5:1 in favor of the PS5 Director's Cut of the game over the PS4 version. The staying power of that brand is just unbelievable all these years later!
Lee had a look at Sonic Superstars' low PS5 sales using big numbers this week, so check that out! What do you think of the returning cast? Let us know in the comments below and we will see you there. Here are the top 40 most popular PS5 games for the week ending Sunday, December 3, 2023.

Chart compiled using gameplay data from over 3.2 million active PlayStation accounts (not just TrueTrophies accounts). Chart information is copyright GameInsights. Regarding this data:
  • When an account opens a game, this is registered as a game being played. Accounts can only register a game once per week.
  • Our data is good for suggesting general trends — we represent this using percentages, not numbers.
