Most anticipated PS5 games for 2024 — from Final Fantasy to Tekken 8 With 2023 well behind us, the TrueTrophies team is looking ahead at what the next year of gaming has to offer. Here are our most anticipated PS5 games for 2024!Kes Eylers-Stephenson Published 01 Jan 2024 FollowtopicsPlayStation 5Kes Eylers-Stephenson With next year in mind, the TrueTrophies news team of Editor Kes and Staff Writers Lee and Sean have put together a list of their most anticipated PS5 games for 2024. They have pulled from the list of upcoming PS5 games and chosen titles they are particularly excited about. Indeed, 2024 has already become surprisingly stacked with quality AAA and indie games so there is plenty to choose from! Here are our most anticipated PS5 games for 2024!Death Stranding 2Release Date: 2024/25Platform(s): PS5Developer: Kojima ProductionsI know what you are thinking. "Great, here's Editor Kes breaking the rules again. Death Stranding 2 isn't a confirmed 2024 release game." I respect it and you are right — we don't know if this is a 2024 or 2025 game for PS5. However, I am an optimist blinded by the shine on those Death Stranding 2 trophies. I'll do anything to delude myself into thinking DS2 will hit in 2024.Kojima's sequel looks exciting and exactly as bizarre as I would've hoped, and that's the only point that matters. All I want is a continuation of Norman Reedus and Fragile's story and the pair feature heavily in the trailer — show no more, I'm sold. The first game was almost like a spiritual enlightenment in terms of my understanding of 'fun' in video games. As in, it isn't always about 'fun' but rather total engagement. The levels are the general lay of the land as you navigate mountains and valleys. The gameplay at its best is about trying to negotiate it all. That appeals deeply to my adventurous sensibilities. The story about simple human connection triggered something social in me post-COVID and the lonely ambiance just heightened those sentiments. So, can Kojima recapture that? I don't know, but I'm looking forward to seeing the attempt more than anything else this year!Other highly anticipated PS5 games: Pacific Drive (February 22, 2024) No Rest for the Wicked (March 1, 2024), Harold Halibut (Early 2024), Assassin's Creed Red (2024/25).Final Fantasy VII RebirthRelease Date: Thursday, February 29, 2024Platform(s): PS5Developer: Square EnixFor many, I'm sure the wait for those Final Fantasy VII Rebirth trophies has felt a little endless. Final Fantasy VII Remake launched on PS4 in 2020, putting us just a little short of the four-year mark for the follow-up. That's a long three-and-a-bit years to still be left wondering whether they'll just go through with it and kill Aerith.I got into Final Fantasy rather late, and if I'm being perfectly honest, I can only call myself a fan of Final Fantasy VII in particular — I'm more of a general appreciator of the wider series. It took playing through the original FFVII in 2020 to convince me I could love the series, and it took playing Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Intergrade in 2021 to realize that actually, nah; I just love these characters in particular.Still, I've kept myself busy since by playing through about 8 more games in the series. I beat Crisis Core Reunion, FFVI, FFXV, and FFXVI in the last year. These have all been pleasant distractions, but I feel the real reward is finally coming with FFVII Rebirth. Soon, I'll get to hang out with my favorite bunch of terrorist idiots again. It's easily my most eagerly anticipated game of the year, and it's upon us pretty soon too!Other highly anticipated PS5 games: Persona 3 Reload (February 1, 2024), Unicorn Overlord (March 8, 2024), Baby Steps (Q3 2024), Demonschool (Q2 2024), Metaphor: ReFantazio (Fall 2024), Visions of Mana (TBC 2024), Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth (January 26, 2024).Tekken 8Release Date: Friday, January 26, 2024Platform(s): PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, PCDeveloper: Bandai NamcoThose Tekken 8 trophies are fast approaching and after getting my hands sweaty in the Tekken 8 demo, I am amped up for this one. While many games are coming out in 2024 that I'm excited for, none of them release as soon as Tekken 8 and I have been craving to dive back into my favorite fighting franchise for some time now.Tekken 8 will deliver a new story that centers around Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima following the events that unfolded in Tekken 7. You can check out our Tekken 8 characters guide for a full list, but you can expect to see a lot of familiar faces as well as a variety of new ones in this highly anticipated sequel. I can't wait to whoop some butts as the badass assassin, Nina Williams. The Tekken franchise is one of the few games where I enjoy partaking in the multiplayer mode (because I am semi-competent at it). However, I have always enjoyed the fast-paced and high-octane energy that the Tekken franchise delivers. It's why I rank it above all other fighting series' out there and why it is my most anticipated release of 2024.Other highly anticipated PS5 games: Persona 3 Reload (February 1, 2024), Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered (February 14, 2024), Dragon's Dogma 2 (March 21, 2024), Dragon Age Dreadwolf (2024/25).So, those are our most anticipated PS5 games for 2024. We're hoping that a few one days make it to the best PS5 games list, though we feel like that is bound to happen in all honesty! So, what are your picks for next year?
