While those Monster Hunter Wilds trophies lie just out of reach as we await its release, Capcom has confirmed we've got a chance to try the game out again in an upcoming beta. If you jump in and play, you can net a Monster Hunter Wilds free PS5 bonus gift for what is shaping up to be one of best PS5 games of 2025.
Monster Hunter Wilds' February beta offers character customization, quests, and free cosmetics
- The first open beta for Monster Hunter Wilds was in November 2024
- The second open beta includes all the content from the first and an extra monster hunt
- Story progress won't move to the final game, but characters and bonus items will
Fans who missed out on the first open beta or just want a chance to play the upcoming monster slaying title one more time ahead of its release can do just that in the February 2025 Monster Hunter Wilds open beta.
You'll have two separate periods to play the beta, first from Thursday, February 6, to Sunday, February 9, 2025, then from Thursday, February 13, until Sunday, February 16, 2025.
Everyone who plays this second beta will get the Stuffed Felyne Teddy Pendant item, which can be used in the final release. It's a charm that hangs from your hunter's weapon or Seikret mount and looks pretty adorable for a game about hunting colossal creatures and carving them up to make weapons and armor.
This is in addition to the armor sets and weapons you can get if you have save data for Monster Hunter World and its Iceborne DLC. After all, style is only second to the sharpness of your weapon when it comes to hunting massive monsters.
I'm sure there will be dozens of these pendant items to collect, but this one won't be available once the second beta has ended. That's why it's worth picking up if you're like me and adore time-limited in-game rewards you can show off to players who didn't get them.
While the second beta is live, you can experience all the content from the first beta, including a Story Trial, character creation, and a monster hunt. February's beta includes a new monster, Gypceros, which gyrates its tail before slamming it down for an attack and appears to play dead to trick hunters into getting far too close.
This feels like a fantastic second chance for anyone ridiculously excited about the game or who missed out on last year's beta. Unfortunately, level and story progress don't cross over, so there's no point grinding out levels and gear before the full release is in your hands.
If Monster Hunter Wilds is anything like Monster Hunter World and its Iceborne expansion, the platinum trophy is going to be one of the biggest grinds of 2025. Creating your character and grabbing every bonus you can will help you get ahead of any unprepared trophy hunters. It's well worth going back to Monster Hunter World and getting through to the Iceborne story, so you've got a leg up from day one.
Monster Hunter Wilds may end up being one of the best PS5 Pro games because the improvements the console enables will matter most in games where more frames can make a real difference in-game. Will you be playing the game's second open beta? Let us know in the comments.
