Following a recent showcase, Like a Dragon Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii Sujimon crews look like they'll be a core gameplay mechanic and, therefore, trophy focus.

After watching Sega's Like a Dragon Showcase for January 2025, my key takeaway is that PS4 and PS5 owners are going to be grinding for Like a Dragon Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii Sujimon crews to hit 100% and help them unlock all those Like a Dragon Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii trophies. Despite there still being so much we don't know, I have no doubt this game will be added to our list of the best PS5 RPG games soon after release.

Like a Dragon Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii could spark the Sujimon grind all over again

  • Like a Dragon Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will be released on February 20, 2025
  • Sega recently held a Like a Dragon Showcase with story and gameplay features
  • It looks like Sujimon, wacky enemies from past titles, make a return as crew members
In the Like a Dragon Showcase Sega held on Thursday, January 9, 2025, it showed off almost 14 minutes of gameplay and details for Like a Dragon Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. One of the most intriguing features that was only lightly touched on is crews.
In classic Like a Dragon style, the crews don't only consist of humans, they're filled with all sorts of creatures and outright bizarre characters as well. I was quite taken aback by what looks like an anthropomorphic golden palm tree, but you can see in the small crew lists on the bottom left-hand side of the screen that you can also recruit chickens and other random creatures.

The Like a Dragon series is packed with phenomenal storylines, more minigames than you can count, and some of the strangest concepts I've ever seen in a video game. While karaoke and kart racing are up there with things I didn't expect to be doing in an RPG about the Japanese Mafia, Sujimon are something else entirely.

Sujimon were introduced in Yakuza Like a Dragon and Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth added to their complexity. They're not creatures, but wacky strangers you meet in the streets as you move between missions in each story. A few of each game's trophies require you to encounter, defeat, and sometimes capture all of them.

If you're thinking that this sounds like the Like a Dragon version of Pokemon, that's about right. However, instead of only needing to fight Sujimon in Like a Dragon Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, it looks like we'll also be using them to crew our ship.

Given that the last game in the series, Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, has five Sujimon trophies, though we could increase that by including some Dondoko Island trophies, I'm sure we'll have at least as many in this next game. That's no bad thing either because I'm already excited for the challenge of finding every Sujimon or the pirate crew equivalent in my first playthrough.

You'll need to train your crew, build relationships with them, and head out onto the open seas to partake in what looks like fantastic ship-to-ship battles worthy of Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag. I have to say, I love the idea of watching a palm tree man and three chickens spot each other in my pirate gym before we all share a meal and some grog. Nothing sounds more quintessentially like a pirate-based Like a Dragon game.

The Like a Dragon and Yakuza games have a habit of being amongst the best JRPGs on PS5, so Pirates comes with a serious reputation to maintain! Do you think we'll be grinding for Sujimon to add to our crews? Let us know in the comments.
