Horizon gets surprising update with potential PS5 double release

A set of Horizon updates for September 2024 has both a rating for the upcoming LEGO Horizon Adventures and, surprisingly, a Horizon Zero Dawn PS5 release.

We thought that the LEGO Horizon Adventures trophies were all we'd be collecting this winter, but it looks like its main series entry, Horizon Zero Dawn, is prepping the once-rumored PS5 release. It's going to be a busy season for our best Horizon games ranking!

LEGO Horizon Adventures outgunned by Horizon Zero Dawn's possible PS5 release

As spotted by Wario64 on X, the upcoming child-friendly LEGO Horizon Adventures has been rated in the US by the ESRB as E for everyone. What does that mean for us? Well, aside from assured "cries of pain" from our enemies (that's right, cry out you heathens!), apparently someone says "ass." Aloy always did have a potty mouth.
In short, the rating is just a nice reminder that LEGO Horizon Adventures is on the way. What we didn't expect was a second update on the PlayStation Studios' Horizon series so soon. Many people, including myself, thought that the once-rumored Horizon Zero Dawn PS5 remaster was the aforementioned LEGO game (which is a fun retelling of the Zero Dawn story).

An ESRB rating has given Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered a T for teen rating in the US. Let's just be clear here, that means a new PS5 and PC version of Horizon Zero Dawn is real. You don't get a rating if you aren't actively submitted and registered by the publisher.

I imagine that this will take the form of a Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut, The Last of Us Part I, or a The Last of Us Part II Remastered where we see all the existing content bundled in and a graphical upgrade. In the case of Horizon Zero Dawn, this will likely include the massive (and pretty great) DLC called Frozen Wilds and a graphical update that brings it in line with Horizon Forbidden West.
Here's hoping it also brings us new Horizon Zero Dawn trophies. As for a release date, I'm going to hazard a pretty quick turnaround from reveal to release. So if there is a State of Play this month and it is revealed there, then I can see it being out in early November 2024.

Kes' Take —

Horizon Zero Dawn might as well follow in the footsteps of The Last of Us

Listen, I know this won't be a popular take — but Horizon Zero Dawn might as well get a PS5 remaster. You don't have to buy it. I'm sure many of you reading this already own it and would only have to pay a small upgrade fee if you did want it. A graphical overhaul and a nice PS5 bundle make it a decent package to have around if you want to play the game again.

Plus, with a Horizon show coming at some point in the distant future, you can see Sony's reasoning. These updates don't take a massive amount of development resources and they give new series players an easy entry point. Honestly, it's no biggie.

That's my take, but I'd love to hear yours down below. Horizon Forbidden West is, for our money, one of the best PS5 games. Do you think Horizon Zero Dawn is of the same quality? Chat about it in the comments, TrueTrophies hunters!
