Foamstars gets DLC trophy in face of diminishing PS5 audience

A new Foamstars DLC trophy for PS5 and PS4 has been released, but will it be enough to bring a rapidly diminishing PS5 player base back to the shooter?

Amid declining player counts, a new Foamstars DLC trophy for PS5 and PS4 has been added to the multiplayer shooter's list of Foamstars trophies. However, despite initially boosting the PS Plus February 2024 player count with its strong launch numbers, the game has seen a considerable 87% player count drop on PS5 and PS4 since its launch in February 2024.

Foamstars' new DLC trophy emphasizes single-player content

The new Foamstars DLC trophy is called "Heroes of Bath Vegas," and awards a silver trophy for clearing character missions for SOA, Agito, Tonix, Rave Breaker, Penny Gwyn, and Jet Justice. Naturally, some trophy hunters will dip their toes back into Foamstars to earn this new reward, although if I'm being honest, I can't see it making much difference to the game's diminishing PlayStation player count.
On February 20, 2024, we reported that Foamstars' PS5 and PS4 player base had dropped by around 54% — dropping out of the top 10 most popular PS5 games to the 25th spot. Of course, as the novelty fades, PS Plus games naturally tend to fall to the wayside. However, such a sharp drop-off after just two weeks was concerning even with this trend in mind.

So, it should be all the more concerning that four weeks after launch (data from week ending Sunday, March 10, 2024), Foamstars has dropped 87.33% of its initial PS5 and PS4 player count (according to exclusive data via GameInsights) — a tremendous drop that echoes the disastrous PS Plus player count losses of Meet Your Maker last year. It's unlikely that a new trophy will make the difference in bringing players back either since the game lacks a platinum trophy to work towards.
Despite being a fun and polished experience, Foamstars has easily been eclipsed by some of more recent addition to the best PS5 multiplayer games — in particular, recent megahit Helldivers 2. That said, will you be checking out the game's new DLC silver trophy? Let us know down in the comments below.

Chart compiled using gameplay data from over 3.2 million active PlayStation accounts (not just TrueTrophies accounts). Chart information is copyright GameInsights. Regarding this data:
  • When an account opens a game, this is registered as a game being played. Accounts can only register a game once per week.
  • Our data is good for suggesting general trends — we represent this using percentages, not numbers.
