Fans of Advance Wars should prepare a week or two for later this year now that the Empires Shall Fall platinum trophy for PS4 has been revealed. Some of these Empires Shall Fall trophies sound brutal, but the game's visuals and turn-based combat are a nostalgic hit that could make it a contender for our list of the best PS4 games you can play.

Empires Shall Fall's PS4 platinum requires high ranks and sole survivors

  • Empires Shall Fall is a turn-based tactics game with a Dieselpunk setting
  • The game has 18 trophies, none of which are hidden
  • It looks like a minimum of two playthroughs are required for the platinum
Empires Shall Fall wears its inspiration on its sleeve, highlighting the same turn-based battles with near-current military technology, soldiers, and something else much stranger rendered with gorgeous artwork. It lends a cartoonish feel to the action, even though the gameplay is likely to require tough-to-implement strategies.
While we don't yet have a release date for the PS4 title, its trophy list indicates that you'll need to complete at least two playthroughs for the 'Empire Campaign' and 'League Campaign' trophies. These are earned by completing all campaign missions for the Empire and League armies, respectively.

To get the platinum trophy, you'll need to finish all campaign missions with an S Rank and complete two of the hardest missions in the game without using any upgrades for three gold trophies in particular. The 'One Man Army' trophy stands out to me because it requires you to win a mission with exactly one unit alive. I really don't relish the challenge of working both sides down to a single unit before a victory.

Conversely, for the 'Annihilator' trophy you must complete a mission with 50+ units destroyed, which sounds incredibly chaotic and right up my alley. I also love the sound of the 'Slow and Steady' trophy because it tasks you with completing a mission in 30 turns or more, which is very much my pace in turn-based tactics games.
