Tokyo Game Show is ongoing, so Hideo Kojima has stepped up to give us Death Stranding 2 details about the release date, photo mode, and characters. While we didn't get a release date for when we can start collecting those Death Stranding 2 On the Beach trophies, we did get a puppet dancing. DS2 must be the coolest title of all the upcoming PS5 games for 2025!

Death Stranding 2 On the Beach gets new details

  • Death Stranding 2 On the Beach is the bizarre sequel to the open-world action-adventure game from Kojima Productions
  • Release Date: 2025
  • Platforms: PS5 (on launch), PC (later date)
A storm of videos has dropped for Death Stranding 2 on the Beach. Let's start with the really big stuff: we didn't get a full release date, but Gematsu reports that Kojima stated: "While we haven’t announced the release date yet, we naturally already have one set. The plans are in place."
"Although production is progressing towards that goal, there are various factors that could affect the timing of the release," Kojima continued. "We’ve said 2025, so it will come out next year. The release date will be announced sometime next year.”

“Development isn’t done yet, but I feel confident, and it’s turning out to be an even weirder game than the first one," Kojima concluded. "We’re making it with the sense of, ‘Is there really a game like this out there?'”

Well, Mr. Kojima, I can tell you that quite definitively: no, there is nothing like Death Stranding 2 on the horizon. Speaking of, one snippet from the open-world game was revealed featuring a musical number called “Horizon Dreamer,” performed by real-life artist Daichi Miura alongside the in-game character Dollman. It's a majestically odd special event you can trigger in the game.
We also have plenty of details about the Photo Shoot function in-game, which is different from Photo Mode. This event allows you to capture characters with an instant camera — sometimes for narrative purposes — in a surprisingly detailed and well-animated scene. I have no interest in photoshoots, but what Kojima Productions has cooked up is so technically impressive I'll be making use of it!

Then we have updates on the new characters. We've got Tarman who is played and voiced by legendary Mad Max director George Miller in English, and voiced by Mitsuru Miyamoto in Japanese. The Dollman is played and voiced by Fatih Akin in English and voiced by Tomokazu Sugita in Japanese.

Tomorrow is played and voiced by TV show The Great's Elle Fanning in English and voiced by Shion Wakayama in Japanese. We've also got a character called Rainy who is acted and voiced by Shioli Kutsuna in both languages.

You can see some footage of the game running on Hideo Kojima's X profile in English. I haven't seen them yet to preserve any secrets they may hold, but everything I have seen of Death Stranding 2 so far is looking extremely promising. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the environmental traversal gameplay — in my opinion, that's where the team can double down on improving the first game.

I thought Death Stranding was one of the best open-world games on PS5, so the sequel is getting me excited! What do you think of all of these new details? Is there anything sticking out to you? Let me know in the comments below, TrueTrophies 'stranders!
