That Days Gone remaster for PS5 is probably at the next State of Play

The Days Gone PS5 remaster may have been a State of Play no-show, but I don't think we've escaped the hoard of remasters just yet!

Days Gone PS5 remaster was a State of Play no-show, so there won't be any fresh Days Gone trophies in 2024 it seems. However, if you were thinking about resting on your laurels, relieved that it wasn't among the upcoming PS5 games — I think Sony has other ideas.

Kes' Take —

Days Gone for PS5 isn't gone for all days

The Days Gone PS5 remaster was rumored by reliable VGC journalist Jordan Middler, who hinted at its existence in response to the general pre-announcement dislike of Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered.

With a reliable journalist as the source and Sony's recent track record of PS5 remasters — Marvel's Spider-Man Remaster, The Last of Us Part I, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, Uncharted Legacy of Thieves, Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut, Death Stranding Director's Cut — the idea that Bend Studio's 2019 open-world zombie game is getting the same treatment feels like it's a given.
Of course, Days Gone PS5 isn't a given until it's officially confirmed, and it wasn't one of the PS5 games at the State of Play September 2024. However, just because Days Gone missed the exit on this Sony event doesn't mean it's not making it to PS5.

I suspect that all the major PlayStation Studios have been mandated with getting their big PS4 games onto PS5 natively. In fact, of all the major teams, Days Gone from Bend Studio and God of War (2016) from Studio Santa Monica feel like the only major first-party holdouts from the last gen.

To me, you simply shouldn't be surprised if we see those two games in the immediate future. That would wrap up getting the PS4 generation on PS5 for all of Sony's first-party teams — there would be no other major AAA single-player game to update at that point especially with Until Dawn for PS5 coming too.
Gosh, if Sony made it through all of the PS4 generation first-party, they might have to give us an interesting second-party PS5 remaster for Bloodborne! Who knows, they could even delve back into the PS3 catalog for something like Killzone, Resistance, or InFamous!

I would expect first-party games like the Knack series to make the jump too had Sony not shut down developer Japan Studio. In the meantime, it's clear that Sony wants all of its classic and available PS4 games to feel like they can be timelessly updated, repackaged, and sold at a new premium price for anyone new to the console. The sad reality of business, ladies and gentlemen!

Clearly, despite the backlash from core fans, Sony sees PS5 remasters as an essential part of the PS5 first-party strategy. I'm telling you this about Sony's strategy about PS5 remasters and Days Gone because you simply shouldn't be surprised if it pops up at a future event — and don't be shocked when God of War turns up, either!

What do you think of Sony's remastering strategy? Do you think that they could as PS5 exclusives in remastered form? Let me know in the comments below, wonderful TrueTrophies community.
