If you've not finished grabbing all of those Bloodstained Ritual of the Night trophies yet, there has never been a better time to do so. Bloodstained Ritual of the Night has received a 2-player mode on PS Plus Extra and on PS5 and PS4, and so long as you have access to the game, you can play the new mode for free. This new multiplayer mode may see the title jump onto our list of the best 2-player PS5 games!

Bloodstained Ritual of the Night receives two new game modes and cosmetics on PS Plus

Revealed through developer Artplay's official website, Bloodstained Ritual of the Night received two new game modes for free on Thursday, May 9, 2024. The new modes are Chaos Mode and VS Mode, and they come alongside a free cosmetic pack for Miriam that will change her appearance in the game. There are also three more cosmetic DLC packs added to the game, but these will need to be purchased separately.
Chaos Mode is a local or online co-op adventure that you can even play all by yourself if you aren't feeling in the mood to interact with others. In this game mode, you will fight through a series of randomized rooms to defeat demons and bosses, overcoming some truly tough challenges. Complete boss encounters with your teammate in order to unlock powerful upgrades that can turn the tide of battle in your favor. So, it all sounds pretty epic if you ask me.

Meanwhile, Versus Mode is a special competitive multiplayer mode, although not one where you fight your opponent directly. Instead, you need to outlast them and survive against the hordes of demons hungry to take a bite out of your flesh.

In this game mode, players will fight wave after wave of demons and earn souls that can then be spent at the shop to upgrade their gear or to cause negative effects to their opponents. These negative effects can see your opponent's controls reversed, their room filled with fog obstructing their view, and other nasty things. Hopefully, your friendship can survive the harsh betrayals this game mode is likely to offer.

I won't lie, I have never been one for games inspired by Castlevania. I am not even really a huge fan of sidescrollers — they have never appealed to me and I find my attention usually drifts whenever I try to play them. That said, I am currently really enjoying playing games with my partner and Bloodstained actually looks like a lot of fun, even if it is a sidecroller.

So, with the inclusion of a new 2-player mode, this may prompt me to check it out and see if I can get into it or not. I mean, what's the harm? The game being on PS Plus Extra means it won't cost me a penny to find out if it's my kind of thing. I mean, it won't cost me a new penny — I have already paid for a year's subscription.

What do you make of this update? Will you be revisiting the game thanks to these new features? Should we add Bloodstained Ritual of the Night to our list of the best PS Plus games? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
