Upcoming Baldur's Gate 3 patch will finally bring mods to PS5 Baldur's Gate 3's latest patch is going to allow mods on PS5, something that many players have been wanting since the game launched.Sean Lawson Published 04 Jun 2024 FollowtopicsBaldur's Gate 3Larian StudiosPlayStation 5Sean Lawson Earning those Baldur's Gate 3 trophies might not be possible using mods, but it will be a fun experience anyway! Baldur's Gate 3 is finally getting mods on PS5 allowing for more creative and unique playthroughs. One of the best PS5 games ever is only getting better with each patch!Patch 7 for Baldur's Gate 3 brings mods to PS5As discussed in an official post from Larian Studios, we can anticipate mods to come to PS5 in the near future. However, there is a caveat to the whole thing, as Larian states: "Limitations [being] in place on some platforms mean that while you will be able to browse, install, and use player-created mods, the official modding tools themselves will not be available to those playing on console. PC players will have access to the Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit to create their own mods, and an internal curation process will determine which of these mods become available for those on console."The patch won't be released until sometime in September and there will be multiple Beta tests to make sure the modding toolkit is functioning as intended before it is distributed to the masses. These mods that come to console will be officially supported and created through Mod.io which will allegedly make sharing, creating, and using mods a lot easier on consoles. While I am sure there will be a lot of limitations and many mods that we see on PC right now will likely not become available on console, it's still an exciting prospect. There are plenty of mods that I would love to see come to PS5, all of which would make my experience with the game even greater than it already is.From what I have seen and with what little knowledge I have of mods and how they work, the likes of "storage expansion" sounds like an absolute treat. I am forever becoming over-encumbered in Baldur's Gate 3, you see, I want to sell everything that I possibly can and make as much money as possible. I'm an entrepreneur after all — who else is going to sell all these Githyanki swords if not me? Other mods that have captured my attention are ones about customization which will allow for more options in the character creator and the outfits you wear. This is certainly something that I would be very happy to get my hands on. On top of that, there even seem to be options to gain new and unique spells that can really help liven up the gameplay if you feel it's gotten a little stale (however unlikely that may be).Honestly, this seems like such a big win for console players and I can't wait to see all the different mods we gain access to. However, like I said earlier, there is a high chance these mods will disable trophies. So, make sure you've earned all the trophies you want to — or, indeed, the platinum — because otherwise, you may have to do an entirely new non-modded playthrough. What do you make of mods? Are you a big fan of them? Excited to experience them for the first time like me? If you want to know more about the game itself, check out my Baldur's Gate 3 first impressions article.
