The hunger for those new Astro Bot trophies has become so overwhelming that it has sent PS5 players racing to check out its free-to-play prequel. The reveal of one of 2024's most exciting upcoming PS5 games saw Astro's Playroom doubling its PS5 player count in June 2024. Our exclusive data certainly suggests that Astro's next game is going to be huge for Sony!

Astro Bot PS5 hype impacts tie-in game Astro's Playroom

  • Astro's Playroom saw a 107% player count increase in June 2024
  • This player count rise follows Astro Bot's reveal at Sony's State of Play in May 2024
  • New Astro's Playroom trophies may have helped maintain that high PS5 player count
Using a gameplay data sample from over 3.1 million active PSN accounts (courtesy of our partnership with GameInsights), we've tracked the number of PS5 players who have booted up the free PS5 tie-in game Astro's Playroom over the last three weeks.
The data shows that following the reveal of Astro Bot's PS5 release date at the May 2024 Sony State of Play event, Astro's Playroom saw an immediate rise in PS5 player attention. Following the new game's reveal, the active PS5 player count for Astro's Playroom spiked by 107.12% (according to data for the week ending Sunday, June 2, 2024).

With Sony immediately boasting about Astro Bot's exciting PS5 features — including the number of new abilities coming to the game and how many worlds we'd get to visit — it's not surprising that PS5 players rushed to check out the previous entry in the franchise. Astro's Playroom has always been a delight to play, so any reason to revisit the PS5 tie-in game is reason enough.

Astro BloodborneAstro's Playroom also got new content.

However, what's impressive is that Astro's Playroom maintained that player interest for a second week. Astro's Playroom did lose 4.7% of that massive PS5 player count spike the following week (ending Sunday, June 9, 2024), but conversely, it actually climbed up the ranks of our PlayStation Chart from the 21st spot to the 18th spot. This suggests the game remained consistently popular with players despite changes in weekly player counts and the popularity of other PS5 games.

It's likely that Astro's Playroom's new DLC trophies for 2024 also played a role in convincing PS5 players to return to the free game and get invested in all the Astro Bot hype. These trophies launched on Friday, June 7, 2024, bringing new content to Astro's Playroom and a countdown timer for Astro Bot into the game.
We here at TrueTrophies already believe that Astro's Playroom is one of the best PS5 games available for the console, so we're thrilled to see it getting fresh attention from interesting players. Chart compiled using gameplay data from over 3.1 million active PlayStation accounts (not just TrueTrophies accounts). Chart information is copyright GameInsights. Regarding this data:
  • When an account opens a game, this is registered as a game being played. Accounts can only register a game once per week.
  • Our data is good for suggesting general trends — we represent this using percentages, not numbers.
