Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag remake is just the beginning for PS5 In a recent interview, the Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag remake was basically confirmed by Ubisoft amongst a host of other old games getting facelifts for PS5.Kes Eylers-Stephenson Published 28 Jun 2024 FollowtopicsPlayStation 5PlayStation 4Kes Eylers-Stephenson More Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag trophies are incoming, given a recent interview from CEO Yves Guillemot lets us know that the Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag remake is probably in development at Ubisoft. Although, it won't be the only remake on the upcoming Assassin's Creed games calendar, by the sounds of it!Assassin's Creed seems set for a slew of PS5 remakesIn an interview titled The Future of Assassin's Creed, Ubisoft's CEO confirmed a few interesting, long-rumored details. "Firstly, players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we've created in the past and modernize them; there are worlds in some of our older Assassin's Creed games that are still extremely rich."You may remember that an Assassin's Creed PS5 remake has been floating around for a long time now, specifically for the pirate-themed fourth game called Black Flag. While Guillemot, doesn't mention the title by name I think we can put the pieces together ourselves. Asassassin's Creed IV Black Flag is getting a remake. However, Guillemot uses a plural here suggesting that we are in for more than one Assassin's Creed remake. Here's hoping, then, that they remake the right game — the original PS3 game. However, I'd love to see the most underrated game in the series — French-set Assassin's Creed Unity — get a remake with a few tweaks to the story, too."Secondly, [...] there will be plenty of experience variety," Guillemot continued. "The goal is to have Assassin's Creed games come out more regularly, but not for it to be the same experience every year. There are a lot of good things to come, including Assassin's Creed Hexe, which we've announced, which is going to be a very different game from Assassin's Creed Shadows."These remakes will no doubt widen the net for the types of Assassin's Creed games that could come out if Ubisoft is falling back on yearly releases. Ubisoft has already started dividing the games into phrases — AC1 until Syndicate is Phase 1, Origins until Mirage is Phase 2, and Assassin's Creed Shadows and the Animus Hub will start up Phase 3.Phase 1 is where a lot of the remakes will come from, especially since it has so much variety. You've got the original games which are what I'd term 'city hubs' that combine urban with a touch of the outdoors. Then you have ACIII and Black Flag expanding on that idea with fuller explorable open worlds with wilderness and oceans. This was followed by the much denser cityscapes of Unity and Syndicate. All of them could offer a different experience through remaking them. While graphical overhauls would be welcome, improvements in the controls of the early games while retaining the parkour complexity would be amazing to see on PS5. Seeing London and Paris again on modern hardware would likely be a truly magical moment, too!If you want my thoughts on the older games, you should check out what I think the best Assassin's Creed games are!
