Assassin's Creed’s new modern-day PS5 hub sounds super boring now Animus Hub for PS5 has been announced, changing the name of Ubisoft's new home for the modern-day storyline Assassin's Creed Infinity.Kes Eylers-Stephenson Published 14 Jun 2024 FollowtopicsUbisoftPlayStation 5Kes Eylers-Stephenson Once called it Assassin's Creed Infinity, Animus Hub for PS5 has been announced by Ubisoft as Infinity's replacement. It's the same concept — the modern-day story will weave through a singular home section for the latest PS5 entries — but it has a boring name now. At least it will be an easy spot to keep track of our Assassin's Creed games ranked!Animus Hub is the new name for Assassin's Creed InfinityAs reported by GameFile, Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Infinity is now called Animus Hub. Confirmed by executive producer Marc-Alexis Côté in an interview, he also reiterated that "you can launch different experiences” from Animus Hub's central point. Assassin's Creed Shadows will be the first entry into the series to use the new launcher.Animus Hub does just sound like a name change, so everything else we've heard about the launcher should prove to be accurate — it should still be the name of the launcher that connects Assassin's Creed Shadows to future AC titles. Côté did confirm that Shadows is being perceived from the modern day, which suggests that previously announced details about the former Assassin's Creed Infinity project are still true. It will probably deliver the modern-day gameplay segments of the franchise, although whether there will be an actual story in the Animus Hub has yet to be revealed. You may remember that Assassin's Creed once used Desmond Miles as a protagonist through which we saw Altaïr and Ezio's stories, followed by a few nameless player-protagonists for a while, and then by the progressively more irritating Layla Hassan in the RPG trilogy. Usually, we follow the Assassin's battle with technology giant Abstergo in the modern day, which was a front for a new-fangled Templar organization.Having played the Assassin's Creed games in order, I thought the modern day was a fascinating part of the series. Who could forget that moment in Assassin's Creed II when Minerva uses Ezio to speak to Desmond who's watching his ancestor hundreds of years ago? I am even a sympathizer of Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag and Assassin's Creed Origins's modern day segments, too. However, frankly, I lost my patience with Layla and company in Assassin's Creed Odyssey. As for the name change? Well, it's pretty utilitarian and boring — Animus Hub does the job without sparking much joy. Much like Call of Duty HQ holds all of the Call of Duty games in a launcher, as long as Animus Hub doesn't try and make things complicated and slow, it hopefully won't even factor into the conversation. That said, I do hope we get some cool time-sensitive taglines if there is a modern-day story being delivered in Animus Hub. It'd be pretty sick if it updated now and again with an idea of what the next chapter may hold — Animus Hub: Journey into the Shadows or Animus Hub: Stab in the Dark are freebies, Ubisoft. How about Animus Hub: Yer an Assassin, Ezio?In any case, will you be collecting the Assassin's Creed Shadows trophies via Animus Hub come November 15, 2024 on PS5? Let us know in the comments your thoughts and any subtitles you want to see to spice up the Animus Hub!
