Being brought to us by developer 10tons, Xenoraid is a vertically scrolling shoot 'em up that looks to take fans of the genre back to the classic days of non-stop blasting and dodging. Confirmed to be coming to Steam at the end of this month, a few details, screens and a video have been released giving us an insight on the shooting madness to come.
In the game, each mission will be driven "procedurally", meaning there won't be any specific requirements to pass a level and there also won't be the need for bullet pattern memorization. 10tons has also focused on the shooting mechanics of the title and included features such as "switching between four fighters during action and fighter squadron management between missions" to give the title additional depth.
Tero Alatalo, CEO of 10tons, keeps it short and sweet with her statement on the new title:
Xenoraid is a thrilling action game and the highlight of 10tons’ second half of 2016. Everyone interested in shooter and action games should check it out.
Jaakko Maaniemi, designer of Xenoraid, goes into a little bit more detail asto why gamers should look forward to trying the shooter out:
For the longest time I’ve felt there aren’t enough entertaining, modern, vertically scrolling shoot’em ups out there that aren’t distinctly bullet hell games. Xenoraid was born out of that sentiment, and as such it’s very much a passion project. I can’t wait to see how gamers respond.
Here's a list of the key features from the title:
- Experience dynamic shoot'em up action with no level memorization
- Switch between four fighters in the heat of combat
- Manage your squadron with weapon and tech upgrades
- Master advanced shooting mechanics like fighter tilting and weapon heat
- Fight through a Campaign mode with more than 40 missions and four boss fights
- Compete in three endless Survival stages with online leaderboards
- Play all game modes in 2-4 player local co-op
The new screens showcase some of the shooting and dodging that takes place as well as different mission menus, upgrade options, and plenty more:
Finally, a new trailer puts all of the screens and details into video form for a fine taste of Xenoraid:
The Playstation 4 version of the title will be released "at a later date". The Vita version wasn't mentioned although I'm sure that we'll here more details on the title soon.
