Dark Souls III's First DLC Detailed

By Kelly Packard,
April's Dark Souls III, the most recent installment in the hard-as-heck-but-even-more-addicting Dark Souls series, will finally see its first bit of DLC come October. "Ashes of Ariandel" will feature a new location, new enemies and NPCs, multiplayer content, as well as brand new challenges and lore that continues to expand the Dark Souls universe.

Players must "enter the land of Ariandel and defeat the evil within to uncover the mystery of what has caused the land to become defiled." As shown in the screenshots and video below, Ariandel is an icy and frozen location, with snow and ice constantly being pelted from the sky.

In addition to the new location and quest-line, "Ashes of Ariandel" will add new weapons, armor sets and magic with which to flesh out your character. There will also be new features for the multiplayer mode, though no real details were given about the upcoming multiplayer content.

In the artwork below, one new enemy is showcased, called the Birdman, as well as a new NPC, simply called the Painter.

"Ashes of Ariandel" will be available for Dark Souls III on October 25th. It's included with the season pass, which currently goes for US$24.99 on the Marketplace. The season pass also includes Dark Souls III's second expansion, which is scheduled to release in early 2017. Purchasing "Ashes of Ariandel" on its own will be US$14.99.
