Kaos is back and so are the Skylanders in an all new game: Skylanders Trap Team. Developer Toys for Bob is back at the helm with this new game, as they didn't make the previous entry, and have created a new way to enjoy Skylanders. Players are now able to trap some of the most wanted villains in Skylands and recruit them to their cause. All of this is done through the new Traptanium Portal (yes, another portal). Once the Portal Master, a.k.a. you the player, has defeated an enemy, they can then place one of the Traps into the portal that will capture the villain inside and keep them there until you call upon them in battle.
Eric Hirshber, CEO of Activision Publishing Inc., had this to say about the new game:
When we created Skylanders, we invented a new category of play and, in the process, disrupted two industries - videogames and toys. With each new Skylanders game, our commitment to continuous, disruptive innovation has led to surprising and delightful new ways for kids to play with toys and games. With Skylanders Trap Team, we’re no longer just letting kids bring their toys to life inside the game anymore. This time, we’re letting them pull their toys out of the game as well. We are confident this instalment of Skylanders will once again redefine what’s possible at the intersection of the physical and virtual worlds.
As far as the storyline goes, we all know that Kaos will be back. He has discovered the location of the legendary Cloudcracker Prison, a fortress built completely of Traptanium, and home of some of the nastiest baddies around. In attempt to create an army of super villains, he blows up the prison, releasing all of them and scattering shards of Traptanium to Earth in the form of traps. Now you, the Portal Master, will have to collect these traps, defeat and capture the enemies, and restore peace once again to Skylands!
As with previous games in the franchise, you can expect more of the same type of gameplay filled with combat, puzzles, mini-games, activities, platforming, and co-operative play. It will offer over 50 new Skylanders, including new core characters and Trap Masters, which is a new type of Skylanders, just like the Giants and SWAP Force Skylanders. The new portal has a speaker and you can hear the villains that you have captured when you have your trap placed into it. In case you are wondering, yes you have to buy these traps separately just as you do extra Skylanders. It's not currently known what the price range is going to be on these and if it will be one or two traps within each package.
Here are a couple of trailers for you to watch: the official announcement along with "The Discovery" trailer.
