Filthy Lucre is Hotline Miami for Proper Geezers

By PR,
New UK studio Fabrik Games has announced imminent action-stealth hybrid Filthy Lucre. Looking like a cross between Hotline Miami and Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, this top-down shooter has three highlights to differentiate it:
  1. Stealth
  2. 2-player co-op in network or local multiplayer
  3. London Gangsters

Stealth

One of the things that immediately sets this game apart from both of the above examples is the availability of an alternative to going in with guns blazing. At first, this doesn't appear to be the back-to-cover or crawling kind of stealth seen in Volume or Metal Gear Solid, but rather the teaser shows some soft-cover mechanics where the player slinks around quickly behind low cover like in The Last of Us (but faster). Much like Payday 2, the game is designed to be dynamic if your once-stealthy plan flips the proverbial table.

Co-op

Fans of Hotline Miami will remember it as a great single-player only game, and fans of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light will remember it as a great co-op game. So what should a game comparable to both have? Why, both of course! There's no better crime spree than one with a partner to watch your back, and there's no better implementation than one that works both couch and online. There's even a hint that competitive greed may become a problem...

Gangsters

With a familiar Cockney accent (recognisable to most through international films such as Snatch, Layer Cake, or Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), they're unmistakably going for London criminals (Miami eat your heart out). In a setting like this, it seems like no tears will be shed if the player ends up 'going loud', so the 30+ upgradable weapons and gear items should give us plenty with which to play.

Players can also look forward to non-linear missions and varied objectives including assassinations and bank heists. The announcement is quite forthcoming for an initial reveal, but I guess this is a benefit of holding your cards close until soon before release.

Filthy Lucre is nearly ready now and is due to release sometime before summer's end on PS4... and, according to one passing mention, is even planned for PlayStation VR sometime later this year!
