This week we are taking a look at some of the wacky and absurd weapons that have appeared in games and listing our favourites. Several of these games could easily have a Top Five of their own because they are just full of crazy weapons, but we have selected just one from each of them. We will try to say why we selected each one but a lot of them speak for themselves. "A picture speaks a thousand words." That old proverb certainly describes a lot of these, so let's have a gander shall we?HONOURABLE MENTIONSCluckshot - Gears of War 3
In the Gears of War
series, players get to unleash their explosive sides using the Boomshot weapon, a slightly oversized grenade launcher. It is a great weapon that doesn't really need improving in any way at all; Epic Games did not think the same. In Gears of War 3
there was a multi-step Easter Egg that transformed your Boomshot into the Cluckshot, which replaced the grenade ammo for explosive chickens.Keyblade - Kingdom Hearts Series
This is a crazy weapon due to its unique design, but also because of how absurd and impractical it is. Sure, it has a legitimate use within the game world as a key, but as a weapon it is completely bonkers. A side note from one of our hounds, ExtremePhobia
, highlights how the weapon is not only a crazy design but has a bit of a crazy history: "The Keyblade is almost treated like a lightsaber with how it's almost a holy weapon. It can only be wielded by Keyblade Masters and there was a whole war over them." TOP FIVE5 - Sheepinator - Ratchet and Clank SeriesRatchet and Clank
is well known for its wide range of crazy weapons, many of which transform your enemies into a variety of things, but the Sheepinator wins it for us. When upgraded it will also cause the sheep to explode. While the movie is not out yet for another couple of weeks, we have seen in the trailers that the weapon does appear. Seeing it being utilised in film just puts the icing on the cake.4 - Gun Heels - Bayonetta
What is better than two guns? Four guns... but how can you hold four guns? By using your feet, of course! Being fully clothed in your own hair aside, the most unique thing in Bayonetta
is the use of guns, with the protagonist having a set of weapons strapped to her ankles. Not only are these quite powerful guns but they provide some very acrobatic displays of gunplay.3 - Inflatable Scouser - Worms 4: Mayhem/ Worms: Ultimate MayhemWorms
is another franchise full of weird and wonderful guns, but Worms 4
also had a weapon called the Inflatable Scouser. Sure, there are much crazier weapons in that series, but I am a Liverpool FC fan and grew up watching Harry Enfield and Chums (fellow fans will know exactly what I mean), so this is an entirely biased pick. It isn't really a good weapon, it mostly just walks, but biased pick is biased. 2 - 'Merica -Saints Row IV
How many Top Five: Craziest Weapon articles could be made out of this series? The entire series is packed full of outrageous weapons, from giant purple dildo bats and dubstep guns, to the mini-gun armchair and the shark-o-matic. It certainly is difficult to pick just one, but the gun 'Merica takes the top spot because it is all of the guns... seriously. Along with a crazy appearance, the weapon comes equipped with Light Machine gun, Sub Machine gun, Auto Shotgun, Heavy Pistol, Minigun, Rocket Launcher, Flamethrower and a huge Combat Knife, and they all fire at the same time, even the Combat Knife. OK, we don't really know why the knife is there, other than for looking cool, of course. It is like two of the RYNO weapons from the Ratchet and Clank
series had babies and fed those babies some steroids. If that isn't enough, it also plays the Marines' Hymn just for an added dose of American patriotism. 1 - Mr Toots - Red Faction: Armageddon
It is a unicorn that fires rainbow lasers out of its pooper. What else is there to say really? Nothing, that's what.
