The Wild Eight Kickstarter Lands Safely, Unlike its Characters

By Mark Delaney,
The Wild Eight is an eight-player co-op survival game set in the freezing Alaskan wilderness. After surviving a plane crash, players are pitted against the harsh conditions, predatory wildlife, and something else, something lurking. Players will have to build shelters, find food, and stay warm. You can go it alone if you prefer, or forage and explore with up to seven others in the procedurally generated game world that is different every time you play. And for good reason, too. The developer, 8 Points, promises a lot of failure. The game won't go easy on you.

Now the game has launched a Kickstarter. Seeking a goal of $50K, the game is aiming for release across Xbox One, PS4, and PC sometime before the end of 2017. After just a single day, the campaign has gathered over 25% of its funding goal. At time of writing, the funds sit at just under $13,000.

Unlike many survival sims that put the gameplay front and center, The Wild Eight proudly rests its laurels on its story plans. 8 Points is teasing special enemy types and a lost civilization that can be explored, but has played coy overall regarding more specific details about these aspects of the narrative. That isn't to say the studio is shrugging off gameplay. They plan on implementing crafting systems, skill trees, and plenty of side quests to complete alongside the main story. If you're interested in living together and/or dying alone in The Wild Eight and wish to know more, we urge you to check out the Kickstarter for a lot more details, including character bios and information on their special skills. For now, here's some pre-alpha gameplay footage.

The Wild Eight, if funded or picked up by a publisher, is currently scheduled for a Playstation 4 release in 2017. A stretch goal of $150K would instead bring the game to PS4 simultaneously with PC this December.
