Sumo Digital Lands Dead Island 2 Development

By Mark Delaney,
It's rather fitting that a project like Dead Island 2 Trophies would appear to be totally dead only to rise from its grave. After Deep Silver dropped Yager from the game's production, they were left without a studio at the helm for nine months. Now the publisher is back to reveal Sumo Digital as the new team taking over the once all-but-dead title. Announcing the news exclusively to MCV, Deep Silver's parent company Koch Media's CEO had this to say:

Sumo showed so much understanding of the brand, had creative ideas and an excellent, vision that was aligned with our own. It just made perfect sense for us to move the project to them. We will reveal more details at a later stage, but for now I’d like to say that we are obviously super excited about the progress that we are making with them.

After creative differences separated Yager and Deep Silver, it appears the new studio's vision is much better aligned with the publisher's. Established in 2003, Sumo Digital has previously worked on games such as Full Kiss Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing Trophies, Disney Infinity Trophies, and the https://www.truetrophies.com/LittleBigPlanet/Series.

Deep Silver promises more news soon regarding the revived development of its zombie game. For fans of past games in the series, you may like the recently announced Dead Island Definitive Collection.
