To everyone's great disappointment, Deep Silver announced last July that they were all but killing their project for the Dead Island 2 title that was supposedly in the works. At the very least, it is clear that they have halted the idea until they can secure a proper collaboration with a new developing studio to resume work on it. No further word has come forth regarding that project but Deep Silver is banking that the hunger for the franchise can still exist since they've just announced that they will release a remastered version of Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide on new generation consoles.
Each title will be sold separately as a Definitive Edition through digital format and will also sell through a compilation of digital and retail formats called the Definitive Collection. Both games have been completely overhauled and remastered through Techland's new gen engine and are said to include all DLC from their original versions. Some of the improvements include:
•Higher Quality Textures
•Photorealistic new lighting system
•Physically based shading
•Image quality enhancements via anti-aliasing
•Improved-quality game models and geometry assets
•The Current-gen Console Experience
•Power Fists Power-up -And last but not least, The fan favourite unofficial PC mod will also now be added to both products. Punch your way through the mayhem with craziest power-up ever!
In addition to the two games in the collection, a classic side-scrolling/endless runner action game called Dead Island Retro Revenge! Trophies will be included, which features:
•Retro look meets melee-based combat
•leaderboards, achievements and plenty of depth
•Game mechanics include power-ups, super attacks and a combo system
When an opportune moment presents itself, put down the machete and snack on the latest announcement trailer and images to see the uptick in quality for these upcoming versions.
Get ready to get in there and break some bones and smash some skulls once again because all three titles, Dead Island Definitive Edition, Dead Island: Riptide Definitive Edition, and the compilation, Dead Island Definitive Collection are scheduled for a May 31st release on Playstation 4.
